I'm adopting a new furbaby in February, and wouldn't you know it he's eating really bad food right now.
I'm planning on switching him over to what I am feeding the boys now, but when should I do this? Would starting the switch soon after he comes be too much stress on him?

Please let me know your thoughts and feelings. Thanks everyone!

When I brought Sydney home I switched their food after 2 weeks. It had given them enough time to get used to eachother.

I've always done done a very slow change over on food for all of my pets.
Introduce the new food in 1/8th increments, increasing the amount every 5 to 7 days. Besides reducing the chance of GI distress, it gives them a chance to get used to the new smells.
I waited a week to start our rescue on the change-over. She did fine.

Ferris was on Purina kitten, and what I did was buy one package of it and started him with a 50/50 mix of the Purina and Nutro (I had to feed Ginger the same thing, as Ferris kept eating HER food instead of his.)

We had no issues at all, but then again, he was a feral rescue and will eat plastic, for Pete's sake.

for kittens under six months I recommend a mix over of 2-3 weeks( provided your cat is not like Ferris
)

Sorry... he's going to be two soon, so he isn't a kitten.

Thanks! I'm just trying to get prepared for our new little bundle of joy! I feel like I should start a count down.
