Absolutely nothing, you can't get rid of Internet Explorer or Explorer from windows. You'll just have the option of using which ever browser you wish.

Wishing I were anywhere but here
I had a virus on my computer a few months ago, except I didn't know I had one! My antivirus stuff wasn't doing what it was suppose to, so when I tried to download the new Internet Explorer 7 it crashed my whole computer because it found the virus. I could only start my computer. I couldn't shut it down, I couldn't do anything with it. I had to manually restart it by pushing the button in. I couldn't do system restore either. It destroyed my restoration points. I had to get a keyboad and mouse with a usb plug and try to get to the blue screen to try to restore it there. It took me over a week, but I got it done. It did it in 10 mins compared to hours if you used the disk. It also restores it to when you first bought the computer and turned it on. It got rid of all that junk I had on there. Now I'm too afraid to download internet explorer 7 because of what might happen. I have AVG free edition for virus scan. It was suggested to me and so far I haven't had a problem. I know what it feels like to have a virus so I feel for you!!!

Whenever you get a virus it's suggested (by symantec and even mircosoft) that you turn off the system restore in windows as most people do not know how long they've been infected, going back may just reinfect you. Turn it off, get rid of the old restore point, get rid of virus, then turn it back on.
A good way to keep track of your comp so you know if something has snuck in is to familarize yourself with the exe's that are always running in processes. Funny names or anything that doesn't make sense should be checked out.
And yes, some stuff on the tasklist site might be wrong, however that's why you double check with a google search.

Careful about how many tabs and how much history you build up, it can be a horrible memory hog

when you get the memory hog what do you do because I did see that come up, I never realized I was a hog though
I just kept getting rid of stuff, cleaning out cookies and such, but it didn't seem to help, can I dump that memory like my mind?
This things got the spell check right on it that is Marvloussssssssss.

For memory as in ram, I use a defragger. Alternatively I could close some stuff and save ram, but I'm still using it (or just forget it was open, same thing)

Oh no no, not hard drive defrag
Memory/ram defrag, windows is supposed to return memory when you close a program but it doesn't always do so or do a very good job at it. If you ever used ME that's what the main problem with it was, it didn't return memory.
Seperate memory defrag programs are good if you have problems with memory or leave your comp on without restarting for a long time. If you don't run out of memory(ram) or get low memory warnings, there's no need to worry.
I use cacheman(there are others), but it's an older version so I dunno if there's a current free version. I have it set to recover memory if it gets too low and will occasionally click on it and "recover memory now".

Hm, the thread has sidetracked a bit, but I hope anyone else reading might be picking up a few tips
I've tried not to get too detailed but maybe I'm too used to fixing my husband's and friends comps.

Natalie, I have a question: What was going on when you originally clicked on the worm dropper link? Were you in the middle of a conversation with this person? Did it come with a text message such as "Check out this cool link"? or did the link come out of the blue in a chat window when you weren't even chatting with this guy?

I hope your uncle is walking you through with Hijack This. It's a must have when cleaning browser hijackers.

I wasn't talking to the guy..its just popped up as a message from him but he didn't even send it..There was a link that said "I hope this isn't you'..so I :censor::censor::censor::censor::censor::censor::censor: clicked it..:censor::censor::censor::censor:.

My uncle said to just leave it as it isn't dangerous and really hard to get rid of...:censor::censor::censor::censor:.

This morning I woke up to my computer telling me there was a trojan horse dropper threat..AND it keeps turning my firewall off..and NOT LETTING ME TURN IT BACK ON!!! When I do a scan, it says that my security center is disable...so I fix the problem, then I turn my firewall on...then its back to square one the next day

:censor::censor::censor::censor:, maybe I will have to reformat..I am not technical enough to do anything else..I don't wanna screw up my puter

Okay, is there a free firewall I can install that anyone trusts? My firewall has been turned off and it won't go back on....
I can't even get into it.
OMG I am getting so mad.
