Kitten's Hair Getting Wirey

My 7 month old female is a black and white domestic shorthair. Her hair is a little longer than her brother's, more human like. Anyway, her hair has all of a sudden become wirey and her tail has lost its fluff. It's not that she is losing hair, the tail is just becoming thinner. Is she missing something in her diet? She was fixed a month ago, does that have anything to do with it?

Saki used to feel like a carpet when he was a kitten lol. It was weird.
