If anyone is still reading this...

I forgot to ask earlier, but when I removed her cast/splint to move it back to where it was supposed to be I noticed that she was sweating a lot under it. I suppose this is normal, the one time I had to wear one, I know I sweated under it. The wound is all closed up nicely, but I wondered how this is going to relate to the chance of infection?? The wound didn't seem wet, but the inside of the cast did. Sorry about all the worrying, she's became my main priority the past couple of days. Thanks for any input, and for the prayers again!

What a beautiful dog! How dare someone shoot her - that is so disgusting!

I'm so happy to hear that she ate and peed.

I really don't know what to tell you about whether the sweating would cause an infection or not.
Like you I've had a cast and would sweat like crazy under it, but I didn't have a wound under mine.

Maybe someone else here will come along that's had experiance with it...if not maybe you could call the Vet..even if they aren't in if you leave a message that should call you back.

Just for the record, I don't think you're worrying to much...I'd be the very same way.

I am so glad to hear that Miss Bea is doing better, and I am glad that she finally pee'd too. I was hoping that she wood.

I would probably call the vet just to ask him about the sweating.

Tell Miss Bea that I am continuing to send prayers and hugs from Mississippi for you and for her.

She looks like such a sweet doggie. I hope she gets all better really fast.

They might keep in eye out at that trailer park. If she took the part of watchdog for the park, the person that shot her could have done it with an ulterior motive in mind.

Bea is still doing well today!!

She's getting up and eating all on her own, and amazingly enough, hasn't had a single accident inside the house. She has lived at the park since she was a puppy, and as far as I know, has never lived inside. She's housetrained herself though, and waits until I take her out to do her business. I'm amazed!

She still hasn't gone "number 2". I don't know how long to wait before I should be worried. We've still got one more trip outside to make tonight, so maybe she'll do her business then. I sure hope so.

There's a step into my back door thats about 5 inches high, and yesterday she wouldn't step up onto it by herself I had to lift her by her harness, but today she's going over it by herself with no hesitation!! Her progress is really amazing so far. She's learning how to maneuver that leg better and better each time she gets up to move around! I'm hoping this means good things for her future.

I think we've finally got the splint secured so that it won't slide down as quickly. We've had to adjust it several times since the swelling went down, but I think that dh finally figured out the trick to keeping it in place. We'll see after her late walk tonight.

Anyway, thats the news for today.

Pray for poops please!

Well I hope she's gone poops by now!

Well no poops yet. If nothing by tomorrow afternoon, I suppose I'll call the vet again.

As for the sweating, he said its something that we really cannot help. He said it isn't good for the wound healing, but it dosen't really do all that much to hinder it either. Either way, the infection that we are really worried about will be on the inside, not in the actual wound itself. He said its just one of those things, ya know?

Anyway, I'm off to bed. Hoping for some action tomorrow though!!

It might just take Miss Bea a couple of days to go poo poo, she has just had the surgery, and now her body has to get back to normal.

If she doesn't go today, I would call the doctor.

She's doing great today!! She actually ran through the house this morning!! (on three legs of course) She finally pooped last night, and seems to be feeling so much better!!

All the prayers and vibes are definately working!! Please keep them coming!! You guys are the best!!

Where are you located? You might want to contact a rescue near you. They can at least put her up on their website and start getting people interested while she's healing up at your place. A sweetie like her shouldn't have any trouble getting adopted.

There are only two shelters around here and one of them isn't worth crap. The other I would be willing to allow to help me out. The problem is, I want to have full control over who she goes to, and I don't know if I'll have the choice if I go through a shelter.

My grandparents are awfully sweet on the girl though....so that may very well be where she ends up!

I have tears in my eyes reading this. I know there are horrible people in this world who hurt animals and I wish there was a way to stop these cruel people, they shouldn't even be called people because they are not...they are the real animals and should be caged. Many prayers are coming for this sweet doggie. You did all you could for her and I know HE will not let her or you down.

i am so glad that u took this girl in to get better and I am soo glad on her progress I just read this post, and I almost cried reading it its people like that that make me mad But I am so happy that she found someone like you guys to help her out and I am sending many get well soon vibes ur way, u guys are in my thoughts and prayers and i cant wait to hear updates !!

It would be wonderful if your Grandparents could take her.
That way you'd know she had a good home and you'd be able to see her whenever you wanted to.

I just wanted to update for any of you who are still following this thread.

Bea is doing wonderful!! She's getting around like a champ, and even has started to put just a little weight on her bad leg when she turns around. Not much just a smidge. It worried me at first, but the Vet said that this is actually a good sign, and that she knows when the time is right to put weight on it. It also means that it isn't hurting very much because if it were she wouldn't even attempt it! So I guess its a good thing!

She's eating well, using the bathroom regularly....everything is going as well as we could hope for so far!
