Murphy!

Well, my baby boy has finally stopped screaming about the sudden disappearance of Abby and her cage and is getting back to himself.
His feathers are a bit ragged, he's a stress plucker, thankfully I think I got him calmed before he started pulling them out.

He doesn't purposely bite, no.
He does like to grab fingers and hold them, but he is a very gentle boy.
He was weaned and handfed by a 9 year old girl.

Don't feel bad, I used to be terrified of those hooked bills too.
I've seen what they can do to brazil nuts
Then I got into parrot and exotic bird rescue and began to understand the level of abuse most biters have lived through.

Once you have complete mutual trust with any parrot though, they are so gentle and loving. Abby used to preen my eyelids
But the trust does have to go both way for that to happen

that's probably it, they can sense my fear. My ex mother-in-law had a little cockatiel and I tried to hold it but I swear I was shaking, and then he bit me, not hard or anything, just enough to freak me out no birds for me!!

aw those poor birds, I don't understand how anyone can abuse a poor animal I'm glad Murphy and Abby found you though!!

Don't worry. My big, strong BF is afraid of my cockatiels. He won't put his hand in the cage because he is afraid they are going to attack him

As far as birds biting goes - my Jasper has bitten strangers, but that's because he is a very nervous little bird, and more fool them for sticking their fingers at him. Usually with me he will take a hold of my finger in his beak and look me straight in the eye to warn me that he's not happy and to stop what I'm doing. I've had a couple of nips from him but he's never broken the skin, he's not a mean bird at all.

My aunt had a cockatoo that had been abused. It was blinded because someone threw acid or something in his eyes. his name was Cookie. He just screamed all the time. Poor guy!!

I actually had the name picked out long before I got him.
I picked Murphy because it is a good Irish name suitable for a green bird of either gender.
Luckily his DNA test proved what I knew from the start, very much a little boy.

His full name is Murphy H. Macaw

I wish I had shown that much sense in naming mine - I haven't had Jasper DNA tested so I have no idea - but I'm going to feel very silly if 'he' ever lays an egg

I think Jasper is a perfectly acceptable unisex name, but you're right, it does sound a bit masculine.

He's lovely! I think birds are wonderful, I'm a little afraid of them too though. Not scared, just wary 'cos I don't know much about them.
I went to a pet show last year and was just stunned at the birds there. Gorgeous colours that I wouldn't have believed were real!
A client has a macaw called Macaw. He used to sort of cluck away to himself in the background while I played with their Siamese. Such a sweet noise.

Murphy is a Hahn's macaw (also known as a Noble or Red Shouldered macaw), they are the smallest of the macaw species at around 12-14 inches in total length.
But they are every bit a macaw.
They are acrobats, clowns, hams, cuddlers and if the mood strikes them, deafening screamers
