I wanted to post this in the IMO: In My Opinion forum but apparently I do not have access to that. So I am posting it here.

I'm from Ohio and saw a disturbing story on last night's news about a man who is trapping cats in his neighborhood and apparently dumping them off in some remote location. 11 people are missing their PET CATS. This is absolutely outrageous but as the article says it's perfectly legal although he is supposed to turn them over to authorities. Here is the link to this story:

This man's name is Tom Siegfried and he lives in Lodi, Ohio. I am absolutely outraged as I'm sure you will all be. I hope these people can find their cats.

Oh MY Gosh.. That is absolutely horrible... I would beat that man..

Why would he do that.. He should go to jail or something,, made to go out searching for the missing cats.. On his property or not.. It's not like they would mess his yard up.. Their cats,, they might kill mice, but that it!!!!

PEOPLE ARE JERKS!!! I hope he gets what is coming to him.. Bad Karma always gets you back!!

This infuriates me. Those poor kitties, lost in the middle of nowhere. I really hope this guy gets punished for dumping these poor pets off in the middle of nowhere.

He'd be getting punished from me, I would be hunting him down like a mad woman.

this is actually right down the road from me, the story was on the front page of my county paper. the laws in these here parts
apparently say that if the animals are trespassing on his property he has everyright to trap them. one family rescued their 15 year old cat from the bed of his truck.

There are a number of things the neighborhood could do to get back at this evil man- and I don't mean nice things. I just can't believe someone could be like that.

He could have at least brought them to a shelter rather than just dumping the poor things off in the middle of nowhere.

I'd imagine what he should have done was go knock on their doors, say "Hi, I'm a complete nutjob who hates cats and has no compassion for humans, and if your cat steps on my property I will trap it and dump it in the middle of nowhere." Kind of like how sex offenders have to notify their neighbors.

I agree!

I grew up in a neighborhood with a man down the street that killed people's pet cats. I've vowed to never have outdoor cats unless I live in the country w/an enclosure since then.

Ugh. People.

You know, hating cats isn't much of an excuse. My dad HATES cats too, but when a neighbor's cat was in the yard he would just whine a little and get over it. If the same cat kept coming around, he would figure out who it belonged to, so if it damaged anything he knew who to complain to. But he never took it out on the cats! My friend is afraid of cats (animals in general) but she just doesn't like them near her-- she wouldn't ever hurt them.

My point is, it doesn't matter how you feel about cats, there is no excuse for what this guy is doing. Or the fact that it is legal. It should be legal to be able to file a complaint against your neighbor if their cat is in your yard, and make the people keep it in their yard, as that would prevent all the psychos out there, like this guy and people who poison them, etc, from claiming they had no other recourse. It should not be legal to steal someone's pet and throw it in the woods.
