I am not a happy camper and I'll tell you why:
I called the vet Monday and made an appt for Rocket for his Rabies shots and an over all health checkup. Ok no problem, they asked me if I wanted a specific vet, I said yes I want Dr.----- or Dr.----- NOONE ELSE. they said fine. SO the vets appt is confirmed and I go w/ Brad and Rocket today. We get there and are waiting. Out comes a NEW vet to see Rocket, now this is the vet I wanted to strangle the first time she looked at my cat so I was NOT a happy camper, but I held my tongue. She was ok this time but Rocket obviously remembered her because he wanted out of there ASAP which is something he never does with the two vets I ASKED for. So we get done 8 minutes later, I didn't even care if the exam was done or not I was because Rocket was upset so we put Rocket in the carrier, paid (oh and while I was paying the vet I ASKED for came out calling for another cat in the waiting room!)
Now my question is this: Why can't they just let me have the vet I ask for? I hate new vets and they don't like me much because I know things (from here) that they can't answer. She wanted to give Rocket a steriod shot with serious side effects that are "more prone to dogs not cats"( because of his ear problem) but comeon, are you kidding me? You're tinkering with my cats life because you like to see me angry?
The thing is, I can't go to the other vets in town they are worse then this one is. (there are only three in town) There is a cats only clinic in Davenport but that's 45 minutes each way and I think that's way to long for a cat to be in a carrier, but seriously if this keeps up I might have to consider it.
Thanks for letting me vent. It's been bothering me since I got home.

I have had simmilar experiances with local vets. I told them off.

My dog Storm (RIP) had a phobia of male vets.... I have no idea why she go so crazy around male vets that she started scratching and even went pee.
So we always requested a Female vet, when we went for her last apointment on December 11th 2006 Storm was in a lot of pain. A male doctor walked in.... Storm went nuts, putting herself into more pain. We finally got the vet we wanted, and she told us Storm had Cancer, a softball sized tumor on her liver. Storm was put down that same day, I couldn't have been more pissed with the entire situation I have not been back to that office since, I drive an hour away to see the vet I like.

I would think it would be OK to have a cat in a carrier for an hour both ways for a vet trip. You can always put a little litterbox in the carrier. However, if you have a cat like Damita who busts her nose open & looks like all heck after riding in a carrier, then it's not a good idea.

No they don't that, but they do cry alot. Isis and Luna are former ferals and HATE to be in the carriers so I wonder just how stressful it'd be to make them go for a two hour drive? They hate the car, the vet, the outside, other people. They are very skittish too, so how bad would that be?
Isis when she gets really stressed will lick herself until she bleeds too.

It depends on the cat. Some don't have a problem and others will go nuts. Like the other posters have said - one of them has a cat that calms and lays down rather quickly but the other one's poor cat goes bananas.

Our two love the car so they just curl up in the back and sleep. We don't use a carrier (we take it in the car with us in case we need to isolate them for any reason), and we ensure they both have their harnesses on and we have the leashes handy. No windows or car doors are opened until their leashes have been attached to their harness and then we just carry them in to the vet. We also take both of them even if only one is being seen by the vet. They seem to calm each other and they both smell the same upon our return home so there's no hostility associated with different smells.

I have been lucky-even monday I had to take a cat in to be put to sleep to a new vet on a hour notice and it turned out to be a great vet(VERY clean and they all came together as a team like they knew us many years). I had one vet I dropped-he came highly recomended but within a few years he realy got off the wall(hes older-nothing against that but have heard years ago he was MUCH better) what made me stop was he came to exam a 16 week old kitten(who he saw 3 times before without incident) and was wearing heavy duty gloves and "want to restrain him during the exam...I was like uh no either take them off or i am leaving(he proceeded to take of gloves give shot and leave... strange. I go to a 3 dr practice I do have my favorite but all 3 are great. I would get a vet who comes highly recomened froma few different ppl-even if to far away then call vet for a refferal closer to you-thats how i found my vet on monday-from a refferal from current vet.

It is on our chart that I will see one certain vet and No one else...they know better, they would lose a lot of business if they messed with me. I think it's important that you find a vet that both you and your babies are comfortable with.

It is completely unacceptable that you requested one of two certain vets and they couldn't work it in.

That's frustrating...I probably would give them a call, and ask why you couldn't see the vet of your choice. As a paying customer, you should have that option. Perhaps the vets you wanted were tied up with an emergency, or something.

I would have said something in a polite way, there is no way I would go and see a vet that had offended me or my cats in the past.

I feel your pain, not with our vet, but with my doctor's office. They gave me a nurse instead of my doctor when I had a sinus infection and was losing my hearing. The nurse told me to gargle. I was so sick I couldn't think straight. Five days later, I called again, insisting I see a doctor. The doctor immediately called an ear/eye/throat specialist who put me on steroids (over the phone) and the doctor ordered x-rays, too. It had gotten so bad that I was completely deaf and had full-blown pneumonia, and took me four weeks of bedrest and specialist appointments to recover.

(I have nothing against nurses except this one; I have two very good friends who are incredible nurses.)

I don't know how many more times you could have insisted on seeing your vet! Maybe tell him next time how you feel? Good luck!

Cheers, from

I wish that were true, but as I was paying the vet I asked for came out and called for the cat in the waiting room 8 minutes after I arrived.
Needless to say, I was NOT happy.

That happened to me once - when the other Vet came out - I specifically state that I had an appointment with Dr.______ - they were fine about it and only had to wait about 10 minutes extra before we got to see him!

hmm.... Maybe I should give them one more chance, I guess. I was just angry that I stated it on the phone which vet I wanted to see and then I get a new vet, the one Rocket hates, and I'm not to fond of either, and then while I am paying the vet I asked for comes out, what's that about? Am I that horrible of a customer that you don't want me to bring my pets to you anymore? I spend alot of money there and though it won't hurt their business much if I leave, I know they will know it. I take my cats in every year for checkups, I'm a nervous mom so I bring them in if my cats seem out of sorts, I always have their shots done, I mean comeon, it's not like I just bring them in whenever, I'm always on time and I try to be pleasant(unless you muck with my cat). Do you think they are trying to get me to stop going there?

I would have asked why I wasn't seeing the vet I specifically asked for. Then, I would have waited util he was availabel or re-scheduled. It's not fair to your cat if he's that tense around this one vet to have to see her when you thought about that and expressly asked for one of 2 other Dr.s.

Oh, and I always put my kitties in a carrier and my vet is a 45minute drive if traffic is good... and up to an hour if it's bad. I don't think an hour in a carrier is too long provided the carrier isn't too small.
