First: we have a vet appointment scheduled. However, it's a new vet who we don't know, so we're trying to get an idea about what to expect.

Our 18 year old female, Patches, has been going to the litterbox a lot. She does pee a little, but it seems to be painful. My parents said she's gone 10 times in 45 minutes. (She goes in the litterbox every time; such a tidy girl!)

I suggested a UTI, but she's on wet food only and does drink water daily (she insists upon the birdbath water). What else could she have? Kidney stones?

Also, how will they diagnose her? Will they only run blood tests, or other procedures typical? None of my cats have had this kind of problem before, so we're not sure what to expect.

Thanks!

Glad to hear that you have an appointment scheduled.

It could be a UTI or it could be stones...it's hard to tell. I'm sure the vet will do a full exam plus blood work to check the white count etc.

I'm sending lots of good vibes that everything works out ok.

No, we don't know how to get a urine sample. The vet said nothing about it. How do we do that?

The new vet is because our old vet is retired. For several years, he was still seeing some of the older patients. Patches has decided to outlive them all.

Despite the wet diet and good water intake, she could still have a UTI. It could be a number of things, but a UTI is a likely possibility.

The vet should be able to get a urine sample. You might call and ask them if they have any special instructions, though.

I hope Patches has a speedy recovery.
