I am very excited! I am going to my very first cat show! It is CFA sponsored show in Dover, NH. The show runs Sat. and Sun., but I am only going one day, since it is an hour away from me. Any suggestions on which day I should go? And what to expect? I really don't know why I am doing this. I certainly don't want another cat right now- I am just not ready to replace my little Oliver - this will certainly take a while. And even if and when I am ready, I will be conflicted about adopting from a shelter vs a purebred. I guess I just want to see what it is all about. Can you join the CFA if you are not a breeder? Will I see anyone from this forum there? I don't think so, but it would be fun to meet someone from this site!

In a state of misery w/o my Bella
Ellyn, you will have a lot of fun at a show, just looking at all the beauties
You won't feel pressured to buy a kitty there, although I have done that before
I usually just go up and down all the aisles and check out all the kitties then go to the show rings and sit a while and pick a favorite to win! Have fun, wish I was going!!

Yaay for you!!! Let me try and answer your questions:

Which day? Either - check to see if there's an agility ring and go on that day - should be fun to watch!

What to do? Check out this thread :http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=112561

Can you join CFA? Not really, you can register with CFA as a breeder but if you want to join any cat club, you join your local CFA or whatever registry club!

Will you see anyone from this forum? Can't answer that!!!

Have lots of fun!!!

Have fun! They will be selling lots of cat thingies (for humans and cats), so bring some extra cash if you want to get something.

Take some pictures for us... maybe of the Burmese, please?

And Abys for me, and Oci's and Rexes for GK! Please!

If you would translate NH (your location/state) for me, I'll tell you which particular cats to look out for - ie. which cats are zooming up the Regionals (Best cats for that region) and Nationals (best cats in the US). That kind of info I can check out for you fairly easily!!!

Going to a Cat Show is a fun day out, Don't forget to take your camera and the cats pocket money
to buy toys and treats.

When I went to my first cat show, I was mistakenly thinking that I would see cats being forced by humans to be in public and out of their environment. WRONG!! Those cats LOVE to strut their stuff!!!! So much class, so much style

I really enjoy watching the judging, esp. when the judge describes his opinions so that even newcomers can appreciate the cat's qualities. And there can be good deals in homemade cat beds; be sure to shop around before you buy, and inquire about where the products are from. I wound up buying from an older lady who made deluxe, large cat beds that sold for $15; the sides can be raised or folded down, depending on cat's preference; the beds were washable; unique in their look - she uses scraps for the outside; plus, the proceeds are used to support her cats and to assist in the maintenance of a TNR colony

Thanks everyone for your comments. Okay, I gather that I can take photos of the cats - nice. I will try to get pictures of whatever breed you want...of course, I will need to get instructions as to downloading to this site - I am really camera and computer challanged. I actually bought a digital camera three yesrs ago and never figured out how to use it. I thought the directions were unintelligable! Still have the camera, but have since lost the directions - now I just buy the throw-away digitals! Also, I did figure there would be lots of things to buy for me and my girls...Thank goodness I get paid on Friday!
