Hey all, I hope someone can shed some light on this for me.

My sister is moving soon, and she has a Whirlpool Duet front loader washing machine. In the manual it says that you should have a "Whirlpool" professional move it or else the tub might get damaged and not work properly. Well it costs them $69 to go out and move the washer for her..

My question is...how important do you think it is to have a whirlpool guy to move it? She would rather not pay the $69 but doesn't want to risk the washer getting damaged. (It won't affect the warranty as it has expired already).

Has anyone else moved a front loading washer WITHOUT a professional?

Let me know please!! Thanks!

They delivered ours and used a dolly to move it. Nothing fancy, no special equipment. NOTHING but a dolly! Ticked my DH off because they told him the same thing about delivery.

Now granted they dropped the first washer from the top of the truck and had to replace it!
DH feels that if you use common sense and aren't planning to have a party on the side of your washer than you can move it!

I hope this helps.

We have the Kenmore version and they carried it into the family room with this goofy strappy aparatus-no dolly!!! I would go on Whirlpool's website or Kenmore's website to see if they mention anything about moving them.
I looked in my service manual it has a small section on moving care!!!
It says in step 6 Call Service. Do not reuse transportation bolts (Hole plugs) . Unit must be transported in upright position. Use two or more people to move and install washer-failure to do so can result in back injury!!

We moved with ours, and didn't have a bit of trouble. Keep it more or less upright, make sure it isn't bounced up or down stairs or banged, and it should be fine. It took two people and a dolly, three to get it into the van.

We have one of those. My dad moved it himself. Just be careful and you should be fine. Honestly I think they just say that so that you give them the business. You don't really need a proffessional to move it.
