Here's what my OCD husband does... he'll get twisty ties (the kind the go around the end of a bag of bread) and mark what is what. He will then write down what color is what item on a little pad of paper.
I can't wait for him to notice that the boys have dismantled his little system. He's going to be so mad.

Thank goodness I don't have a mess like that at home. At work I have tons of cords under my desk and it drives me crazy. I had zip tied them neatly together but every time they come to work on my computer the cut the tie so I just gave up.
I'm sure it was Scratch that did it - 8-Bit wouldn't do anything like that.
I use to put stickies towards the connector on the cord that said which is what.
