Hey guys, big drama with Mommy cat. None of the shelters will take her to be adopted. They started out telling me that they won't take her cause she wasn't my cat. I told them that this kid gave her to me, saying take her or I'll let her out in the streets....they wanted to speak to him, but I didn't have his #. Then they asked how old she is. They don't take cats over 5 yrs old to adopt out, the put them all to sleep!
And I said she's loving enough to be adopted, she just needs medical care for the rug burns on her belly, and they said they will PTS immediately cause they don't use medical services for animals that are too old to be adopted.
I need help guys! Right now she is living in my daughters bedroom.... I have DH agreeing to let me keep her till we find her a home, and to find her some affordable vet care, but I need to find her a furrever home soon. If anyone would be willing to care for her, I am willing to help pay/pay for her vet bills, and to drive her to whomever....even if it's within the tri state area....please check with your family & coworkers, see if anyone is willing to love this little girl that only wants to be loved....

Look at this sweet little face, she just needs a home....

Are you absolutely sure all the shelters will euthanize her? I mean, there's no kill shelters around... maybe there's one a ways away that'll take her. Sometimes you have to drive across the state to get a no-kill with openings.

If you're lucky you could get a shelter to take her in, if you promise to foster her...

PetSmart sometimes has shelter cats up for adoption. I'm not sure about their policy on privately owned cats taht need homes, but it can't hurt to ask...

You could put "cat for adoption" signs up on your vet's bulletin board. Same with shelters.

Anyway, you have a really cute cat there. I sure hope she gets a home. I wish I could take her in but my housemate's dogs would terrorize her...

That is just a beautiful cat, I am so glad that you are taking care of her right now.

I am sending prayers from Mississippi that you soon find her a forever home.

And I am sending you some hugs too for being so good to Mommy cat.

Don't give up! Put up flyers, etc. everywhere! Call vet clinics to see if they will let you put up signs. Put an ad in the paper! Someone out there has to be willing to give this girl a home!

The shelters in my area are the SPCA and the Womens Humane Society (45 mins away) they both claim to be no-kill shelters, but when I spoke to each of them, they said "we are no kill for pets that are adoptable, a cat over 5 yrs is NOT adoptable."
Even the Morris Animal Refuge that does not kill cats that are not adopted will euthanize a cat with medical problems.
I spoke to my vet, they said I can put up a poster on their bulliten board. I am taking her into the vets on Sunday.....it's gonna cost me about $200. I am having a blood test done for her, I need to be positive she doesn't have feline leukemia or feline aids....also, the vet tech said that she could have a thyroid problem, and that's why she's so fat but not eating alot. I put 1 cup of dry food out for her on Sunday, and she still has about 1/3 of it left.... the recommendation on the bag of kibble said for her size/weight to feed her 1 & 1/4 cup of food per day. The vet tech said to try giving her 1/2 c per day, and watch how much she's eating. They said I can put a flyer up in their office. I will be making those up today. I am hoping to get her wounds healed, and vet checked, and once she's healed then maybe the animal refuge would take her in....
I wish I could let her inner mix with my 2, cause she seems to want attention so badly.

Please talk to anyone you know who may be willing to foster her/adopt her within a 2 hr driving distance from Phila Pa.... thanks guys.

Heather, PM Jen about Tiger Ranch, I know that she takes cats there that are deemed "unadoptable" Tiger Ranch is located near Pittsburgh, so that's around 2 hours isn't it? I personally don't have info, but Jen will. Good luck with the poor dear girl, why do people have to be such morons

Katie, Thanks for the info!
Pittsburgh is about 5 hours from me....maybe a little more, Philly is as far east as you can get, I'm 15 mins from NJ.
But I would make the drive if need be.... so far it looks good for getting her adopted....I have a good feeling about it. I will keep you posted, and of course everything depends on her vet check. Alot of people simply cannot take Felv or Fiv kitties, they don't have the seperate room for them, and most people are just fostering cats in their own homes....
I'm just praying that her blood work comes back normal.... my vet said on the phone that she may have a thyroid condition causing her to be so heavy and not really eating too much....but it would be easily controlled with meds and diet. As of right now, I am greatful to be helping this little
who has already been neglected, abused, and abandonned, and still has room in her little kitty heart to love.

Heather how did you make out with the vet appointment? I hope the blood work came back negative for everything. How is her tummy? Find a home for her yet?

ok, an update.....well, the rescue that is taking her was supposed to pick her up on Sunday, but they had car trouble and didn't show. I met them last night at their vets a few minutes from me. We took Mommy into the vets, and they gave her a rabies shot, and took some blood (she hated it
), and did a check-up, and front lined her. Here, the wounds she has is from flea infestations! I had checked her over and didn't see any, but the vet said she must've been infested her whole life, and is allergic to flea bites....so this was causing her the irritations and then she was licking & biting at it....the poor little girl. (to think all of this could've been prevented with frontline!) Now, to be safe, I have to get both of my cats front lined, and wash everything really good.
She has a good heart beat, and clean ears (just a bit dirty, but he cleaned them out good)....he put her on the scale, she weighs 14.5 lbs, on a very small built cat!
She is smaller in length than LuckyGirl, and over twice the weight!
The lady from the rescue said it would be a bit till she was adoptable, cause we have to get her wounds all healed up.... but I have a few people that are interested in adopting her already! I must admit, I did lose sleep over her last night, I kept wondering if she was scared, if she was alright....
So, they said they will keep me posted with updates of her health & whenever she gets adopted....and I will keep you all posted too! Thanks again for all of your prayers & wishes for her, she is on her way to a loving home!

Please let us know when Mommy cat finds her forever home.

Is this shelter a no kill shelter, they won't put Mommy cat to sleep if they can't find her a home will they?

I got ahold of a rescue from Petfinder in my area, I sent about 100 emails with her picture to them, and alot of them that couldn't take her, put her picture up on their boards with her story, but the one place that said they just had an opening is a privately run rescue....here is her link:
http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/PA260.html
I was nervous at 1st, but when the lady suggested I meet her at her vet, they were picking up other animals that had been sp/nt, I felt better. She is an older lady (about 60-65) and runs her org through all volunteers and private foster homes, her animals aren't put into cages, at most they are secluded in an office/bedroom if they need to be quarentined.... and they never take a paycheck, none of their volunteers make money, they all do it out of their hearts, all their donations go to vet care sp/nt of their fosters. Their food supply is donated by their foster parents....
Anyone feel free to make a donation if wish!

She is not a shelter, but a rescue, and will not PTS unless she comes across an animal say hit by a car, and there is no way they would make it....she has one that has become her resident cat even though she's mainly a dog rescue, cause everytime an adopter comes to see her she bites them! Never bites a visitor or anyone else ever, but as soon as someone comes in that may take her, she bites them?!

I will keep you posted on her outcome, however it will be 1-2 months before she is pretty enough to be adopted....she has to get rid of the sores, and get a beautiful coat again.

Hi there,

I'm not sure if there's still a problem with Mommy Cat, but if so, I want to let you know that Tiger Ranch is amazing. Now granted, she's got more cats than I think she can handle there, but each one is treated and cared for. She does not kill either. If something happens and the cat is not adopted, then she keeps them there at her "ranch" forever. I took 3 stray cats there about 1 1/2 years ago because I was so tired of seeing them outside without food and care. It wasn't fair to the animal, so I took them to Lin Marie. she's fantastic. You won't regret it!

I could put up a courtesy post for you. I sent you a private message with my email. I hope I can help you. We can help you screen potential adopters.
