Pack your lunch. Everyday. Use coupons. What you would have spent on groceries slip into a savings jar. Save your change. I have been putting my change into a jar for like 2 months for Phantom's spay and had $50 bucks. I agree, pay yorself first!

There has been some great ideas here for her. It would also help not to go eat out, eat your lunches and suppers at home.

We also have a change jar, and you would be surprised how much you can save just by putting your change up every day.

There's no place like home
If you drink sodas (or water from bottles), get yourself a portable cooler and ice pack. Rather than buying them at vending machines or stores, buy them at the store and bring them with you. I drink bottled water, but refill them from my tap water at home (my whole house filter is better than store bought water anyway). If a coffee drinker, invest in a thermos and bring coffee with you.

I added up what I was spending on drinks one time and figured I was dropping over $20 a week. It's a lot cheaper to pack them with you.

Actually, for that matter, take a note pad with you and write down every cent you spend over a few week period. You'll know where your money goes pretty quick and can decide where to cut down.

I buy canned drinks in bulk now rather than buying them one at a time at the store/gas station etc. We noticed a BIG change in uor pocketbooks after that.

If you buy coffee everyday, make it at home instead. You'd be surprised how much that can save you each month!

Pack a lunch everyday if you don't already.

Also, one thing I've done is to root through my closet for clothes I don't wear anymore but are still in good condition. Sell them on eBay! Or instead of buying new clothes, also look on eBay. I recently got two pairs of Gap jeans, like new, for about $28 each instead of $58 each.

I love dollar stores, like The Dollar Tree. If you have something like this close to you, you can really cut back some expenses buying your shampoo and household cleaners, garbage bags, etc. there.

And coupons, coupons, coupons!

Here's a thread from another forum for living on the road, but I'm sure someone could do some of these things in everyday life to save money.

Yesterday's Oprah show had the "money" experts on. If you could buy the current issue of Money magazine it contains lots of tips this month.
One item suggested was to contact your credit card companies and negiotate a lower interest rate. Many of them want to retain you as a customer and have some room to move on the rate. That can save $$$$.
