My wife and I need some help. We received a new rug for Christmas and our cat Cleo has been licking/eating it, and then later throwing up huge chunks of it. The rug has little yarn-like threads, which she is apparently eating. It's like she's grooming it, and then throwing up a massive "yarn" ball instead of a hairball. (Which is interesting, because she never has hair balls.)

Do any of you have any suggestions as to how to get her to stop licking/eating the rug?

Thanks,
Matt

Spray it with a Bitter apple mix (and/or a citrus one) you can get at most pet stores. Once she's turned off and forgotten the idea, you could steam clean it or just air out the room and cross your fingers. But I'd also get her a new, tall scratching post or cat tree rubbed with catnip to distract her, just in case!

get rid of the rug unless you are willing to patiently and kindly train your kitty to not eat it anymore.

Get the rug away from her, before you know it you could have a digestive, intestinal problem, or other situation!
