Just when I thought she was doing great! Her last abcess must not have drained completely and it healed over. Now she has a nice fluid filled sack that's hot to the touch and hairless on her back hip. The vet's going to open it for her (poor girl) and drain it. I also just noticed she needs her nails trimmed. LOL Wonder if I can get him to do that, too.

You may be able to get the abscess to open and drain at home by using warm compresses on the area. If it does burst, you can flush the area with saline solution. You can also used diluted hydrogen peroxide (though I can't remember how dilute it needs to be right now). Keep doing the warm compresses to help bring the infection to the surface. Spot had recurring abscesses on his face (where we couldn't use peroxide) and reacted poorly to most antibiotics, so we had to do the warm compress and saline flushes frequently.

Thanks for the tip. How long, generally, does it take for it to open with the compress'? I was putting them on and off of her all day today. I learned something, Panther utterly hates having a washcloth laying on her. I've been bit a few times. LOL She's a grumpy child.

I think it depends on how thick the skin in that spot is. Spot hated those washclothes with a passion too--and he was normally very well-behaved. I would pill him twice per day and he just took his meds like a good boy, but he got squirmy when I had to deal with the abscess. Can you see whether there is a wound or a scab enclosing the infection?

Several scabs over the area. I tried to pick a few of them off when they got soft from the compress. I guess they don't go down far enough because nothing came out. She went in today and is now on Clyndo for 2 weeks. He said she had/has a massive infection that just keeps staying in her hip area. No fever, no pain and she still eats and stuff. I did talk to him about opening it on my own, he didn't open it, and he said the compress should be put on for no more then 5 minutes at a time about 2 or 3 times a day.
