PHNOM PENH, Jan 19 (Reuters Life!) - A Cambodian woman who went missing in the jungle for 18 years before being found last week is struggling to adapt to life as a human and wants to return to the forest, police said on Friday.

"She prefers to crawl rather than walk like a human," said Mao Sun, a district police chief in the jungle-clad northeastern province of Rattanakiri where the girl's family live.
IMO they should let her go back to the jungle where she feels safe.

I'm not so sure I agree. I mean, yes, she currently seems to feel safer with what she knows. But it says she lived with her family until she was 8, and then suddenly dissappeared. So, she is capable of re-learning her language fluently (presumably, if she spoke before she went missing), of becoming a part of society again. Unlike the children who were never allowed to be exposed to being human, she actually has a chance at becoming a "normal" woman.

To me, it sounds like her family may be guilty of something. 8-yr-olds don't just decide they'd be happier with no human contact. And now, she is still afraid of them.

But she is a grown woman now. Maybe not mentally. But she is capable of thinking on her own whether she can communicate that correctly or not. Would you want to watch her miserable in society or be happy where she's comfortable? Yes she could probably adapt...but she doesn't want to. So why try to force her to?

I agree, I don't know what to think of the situation.
