I don't know what to say.....

I just asked my mum (over IM) how they were doing and she said:

I have been putting off telling you this, but both kitties have gone to the big cattery in the sky. Bonny was getting weaker in the hip and was howling a lot, so I figured it was causing him problems. I wasn't going to keep him going on painkillers, so took him to the vet.

Coco was lost without him, she then never stopped meowing, she drove me insane, so I took her to the vet too. He was very nice, and sent me a condolence card - it was pretty awful and sad - but a relief too!
I can't believe she didn't tell me. We got them when I was 10, and yes they're old and I knew it was coming, but I just can't believe she didn't tell me. We're very close and talk regularly, and I understand she's upset, but I mean, she didn't even tell me they were going downhill.

I'll put a post in the RB thread once I get home from work, have a bit of a cry and think of what to write.

Sarah, I'm really sorry to hear about this. At least now neither one of them are in pain.

Just spoke to mum - they got euthanised before christmas
Apparently she was so upset she didn't tell anyone for 2 weeks! And she hasn't even told my aunty yet who she's very close to and also a cat person.

Poor thing

I'm so sorry. I agree she should've told you earlier, but it was probably hard for her. At least you got to see them one last time before they passed.

Condolences to you both! What a burden to keep locked inside her heart - I guess that she thought that she was sparing you the pain of knowing, poor dear. It does sound like she had their best interests at heart; the despair of the greiving cat must have been too great, or the vet wouldn't have done it. You now have two kitty angels looking down at you in Calif.; but IMO, it would have been better for you to know what was going on "back home", and the burden would have been shared and you and your mom could have comforted each other. You will be in my thoughts and prayers tonight. Susan

I'm sorry
I'm sure your mom wanted to tell you but probably couldn't find the right words knowing how close you were with the little angels, and she was doing what moms do and that's to protect their children from pain.

I'm sure it was a terrible decision for her to make, especially when it came to the the second kitty.

I know, I would never think of keeping that sort of thing from anyone
