Just in case you weren't feeling too old today, this will certainly change things.. Each year the staff at Beloit College in Wisconsin puts together a list to try to give the faculty a sense of the mindset of this year's incoming freshmen (2005). Here's this year's list:

The people who are starting college this fall across the nation were born in 1987.

They are too young to remember the space shuttle blowing up.

Their lifetime has always included AIDS.

Bottle caps have always been screw off?

The CD was introduced the year they were born.

They have always had an answering machine .

They have always had cable.

They cannot fathom not having a remote control.

Jay Leno has always been on the Tonight Show.

Popcorn has always been cooked in the microwave.

They never took a swim and thought about Jaws.

They can't imagine what hard contact lenses are.

They don't know who Mork was or where he was from.

They never heard: "Where's the Beef?", "I'd walk a mile for a Camel", or "de plane, Boss, de plane".

They do not care who shot J.R. and have no idea who J.R. even is.

McDonald's never came in Styrofoam containers.

They don't have a clue how to use a typewriter.

Those are funny! This is my favorite:

1975 : Being called into the principal's office
2005 : Calling the principal's office

It works the other way, too, like people who are 115 years old, and remember before the automobile, airplane, and telephone!

Cheers, from

Very true. I'm an old lady born in 1944 but I can still relate to this.
The second part makes you realize how far technology has progressed. People my age remember a time not only before cable and remote control but before TV, among other things.

Thats cute but makes me feel younger. I was born in 1986! I just discovered a couple of days ago that I am no longer the youngest person where I work. O well!

Actually, they were born in 1989. My sister is starting college in the fall and she was born in '89. That means next year, the people turning 18 and being considered legal adults will have been born in the 1990's.

I was born in '85, so this is cheating a little bit, but...

I don't get this one. Cable's been around since 1950, and by 1980, 23% of US households had it. We didn't have cable until I was about 8, although my grandparents did, and my grandpa taped certain shows for us on Beta-max.

Oh come on. My brother was born in 1996 and he still has seen Jaws. You'd hve to be dead to have escaped from seeing that movie.

As in Mork from Ork? Played by Robin Williams?

Being as how my mom was teaching college when I was little and we didn't have a computer until I was in 2nd or 3rd grade, I got to use the typewriter!

See, if you thought you were old before...you're not! Hooray!

That is too funny. Some of that is so defiantly true, I have to show that to my DH when I get home, he's even a 60's baby! Barely but still! He will laugh his butt off. I love the BMW and BM one!!!

Being born in 1986 alot of those things dont apply to me!
We still had a black and white tv in the bedroom untill we moved to Italy

Hot cakes in australia by mc donalds still come in that styreoform stuff!

I still cook popcorn on the stove.

I didnt have cable untill i turned 10, and i dont have cable now.

I used a typewriter to type my stuff up for school, untill i was 12

Bottle caps have not always been screw offs!

We didnt have a telephone untill i turned 8 years old. we started using the answering machine when i was 12.

I could care less about the remote control

I have never seen a CD untill i moved to australia and i was 9 years old then!

I remember that...

Bottle caps have always been screw off?
Still aren't for good beer!

The CD was introduced the year they were born.
Didn't have a cd player until middle school.

They have always had an answering machine.
I remember our first answering machine. And microwave.

They cannot fathom not having a remote control.
Our TV had two knobs, and was B&W, when I was very young.

Jay Leno has always been on the Tonight Show.
I still like Carson better, even though they were always reruns.

They never took a swim and thought about Jaws.
That is SOO not true.

They don't know who Mork was or where he was from.
Robin Williams, and he was from Ork, and drank through his finger.

They don't have a clue how to use a typewriter.
I had to write all my papers on a typewriter (and not even an electric one) until junior year of high school.

Also... I still have a record player, fluffy hair, bellbottoms(though they're called flares now), homemade tye-dye, bangles, and tapestries on the wall.

Maybe you guys think it makes you old... I think you're lucky to have grown up when I would be considered normal
