Hairballs, will they go away with more fiber?

My shorthair cat gets a few hairballs, but rarely. (mainly in the summer when she is shedding), she grooms herself well (her coat is clean), and lets me brush her, but only for a minute.

I heard more fiber in the diet will help the hairballs pass, so they dont have to be regurgitated. Will giving my cat grass eliminate hairballs, because she loves cat grass.

There isn't as much fiber as you might think in cat grass. You can try a spoonful of canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie mix).

What kind of brush do you use? I use a Zoom Groom and my short hair loves it and it gets off a ton of hair and keeps the hairballs down.

You can also give a finger full of Laxatone or something similar a couple times a week as a preventative.

I use a soft rubber brush, or the brush with the wire to get the dead hair. My cats just dont like to be brushed, they will walk away, and if you try to brush them when they arent in the mood, they will give you a warning meow.

In place of canned pumpkin (which is hard to find after Thanksgiving) I use baby food - yellow (or winter) squash. I figure pumpkin IS squash, and a small jar of baby food means less goes to waste.

Prego is like that too, but he has to be combed daily or else he'll get mats on his tummy. He is food obsessed, so I comb and brush him while he's eating. He isn't thrilled about it, but tolerates it.
