I still don't understand why americans call it the bathroom when theres no baths in some toilets!
Or a restroom-- I certainly don't want to "rest" on a seat with a hole in the middle and other people peeing a couple feet away.

Every time I hear someone say "I have to powder my nose" I think of Mia Wallace in Pulp Fiction... who literally means she's going to go blow some coke. It makes me giggle.

hehe no problem
I am a southern belle....so normally i say ladies room or restroom....but every once in a while- i'll run into a really southern older lady and they always refer to the restroom as the powder room
they'll say "i'm going to the powder room to powder my nose- but we all know what they're going on there to do
they just want to make it sound sophisticated and becomming
I had to add that one to my list

Bathroom (mainly at home or someone else's house), toilet or loo.

I've never understood restroom - who goes there for a rest?

Me too, I work at a day care and that is all I call it.

My husband asked me one time if I just couldn't go to the restroom like everybody else did, I told him no I had to go to the potty. Neet has probably heard me say potty before too

At home, it's the bathroom (we also have a powder room), at school the lavatory, and otherwise a restroom or ladies' / men's room.

I normally call it The bathroom at home, potty/toilet to my son, washroom when we're out.

At home or with friends I usually just declare, "I have to pee." In public, I say rest room or ladies room.

A friend occassionally says that he "needs to see a man about a horse."

I say the toilet or the loo. The word "restroom" makes me laugh. Who goes in there to rest?

And bathroom - unless I'm going there to take a bath/shower, then that word is unnecessary

Bathroom/restroom are very American phrases I've discovered. Same with potty. Whenever DH and I hear someone say potty we kill ourselves laughing. With the American accent it sounds like how an Aussie would say party. So when someone says "ooh the kitty's going potty", and the kitty is there scratching up a storm, well you can see how we'd laugh... Maybe.
