Bah, I feel guilty for not wanting to go to work today when I skipped yesterday as well, but there's freezing rain outside, and a number of roads already closed due to ice. Am I right in not going in? I have a feeling that some of my coworkers will probably go in, but maybe that's just the irrational scientist in me. Someone reassure me that its not a smart idea to go out in the freezing rain!

Maybe call in, see who's there, and then see if you cant take public transit or something?
Stay home if most other people did too. But, if you are the only one staying home, it could look bad on you...

Freezing rain sucks! If someone else wants to risk their neck by going into work, let them. I assume that the news people and gov't officials are telling people that if they don't have to go out, to please stay in? That's what they did here when we just got snow, let alone ice.

Stay home, have some hot cocoa or coffee, relax, and enjoy being inside watching the miserable weather out the window.

I'd say so! I think its silly that businesses expect to operate fully when there is a higher risk on the roads.

Heck the only thing I thought was silly for not going the past 2 days were the people without power. We had about 80K of households without power (some are still without) and they stayed home. Umm...lessee, it's cold outside and you need electricity to turn the thermostat on to run the heat. There is heat at work.

I wouldn't worry about calling in though. Have a fun day off!!!

Unfortunately, there's not really a public transport system here since its not a very large town. Its pretty much a "if you don't feel comfortable driving in ice, don't" thing at work, and I definately don't feel comfortable driving in the ice. Especially not if its still coming down, and is expected to all day.
I work in a lab, so its sort of my own problem if I don't come in - it just means I don't get my own work done.

They were defintely telling people yesterday not to go out, and it seems like there are even more roads iced over today...Yesterday morning alone there were three serious wrecks, several more minor ones, and around 20 people who had to call for help after sliding in ice...Maybe I'm a wimp, but I don't want to drive in that!

I'm in Frisco and I'm home. Started out early and doing fine with the layer of snow. But the light rain coming down was turning instantly to ice on the paths already cleared by other cars. I started slipping and sliding so slid it on back home after about a mile. My car needs alignment and I'm sure that was not helping.
It isn't worth the possible damage to car and person. Don't worry about the office. Stay in and stay warm!

Yeah I really should do some of that
lol I think that's going to be me in a little bit! I just sent an email to my boss saying I'd probably be staying home today unless the weather improved.
