Is it the liquids that drip from a ficus that cats are allergic to? I have a ficus that I am going to give to my neighbor. Today my cat was laying on top of some of the fallen leaves for just a few moments until I led her away from that area. She never usually goes near it. Since she didn't eat any of it, do you think she will be ok? What happens to them, upset stomach?

Ficus bejimina are considered non-toxic, but in answer to your question, it is the sap of some ficus species that can cause contact dermatitis.

My cats and birds would lie/perch in and around my ficus benjimina when I kept them, with no problems.
The ficus elastica decora is more likely to cause issues.

I've never had any problems with my cats around my ficus whatsoever.
