I have a one year old female cat. She throws up sometimes. I know it is normal for cats to throw up the hair balls. But my cat throws up food, sometimes food and hair ball together. Is it normal? Other than that, she acts normal, does't look like sick at all. She does eats a lot. Since I have a four month old kitten, I always keep their bowl of food full. Do I have to take her to the vet? Thanks!

I think a trip to the vet is a good place to start to rule out any kind of medical problems. Then, I'd limit her food consumption so that she doesn't gorge herself all day long and become overweight. The vomiting could because she's too full but it could also be that she's allergic to something in her food.

You may want to check and see if perhaps she is eating her food too fast.

Sometimes when that happens, the half digested food comes up with the hair ball.

You may want to consider getting some Laxatone for the hair ball and not giving her quite so much food at one time and see if that helps.

Exactly! She is eating too fast. I know this because I have two other cats to compare with. That is a really good tip. Thank you.

Feed her on a flat plate, move the water a bit away from the food so she has to walk over to drink and elevate her food plate

Thanks. But why elevating her food plate? So she will slow down because it will be harder for her to reach the food?
