My uncle and grandmother both died of complications from cancer treatment - my uncle after surgery and my grandmother after a whole host of complications from chemo and radiation. My uncle's case was kind of a freak thing but I think a lot of people have experiences like my grandmother's.
That said, I also know people who are long term survivors of other types of cancer - mostly breast cancer, lymphoma, and childhood leukemia. I also know a couple of people who are doing fine years after surgery for non-metastasized colon cancer.
Surgery, I'd definitely do. But I'd want to investigate alternatives to chemo. Chemo shrinks tumors but for solid, inoperable tumors, it really doesn't produce cures very often.

I hope you never ever have to go through it again either!
