Our dog, Max, a big ol' hound dog, got into the trash on saturday night and ate a pork chop bone. He was okay yesterday, had a few more poos than usual, is all. Then, last night he stuck one leg straight out and howled a bit....we massaged that leg and think it was just a cramp and unrelated, but it put us on edge. Today, he woke up and insisted on going out at 6am, a full 4 to 5 hours earlier than his usual schedule (he gets a late walk at 1am as bf and my work schedules are shifted later than most people's). He's had diarrhea, and on the second and third trips out to poo today, bf saw some blood in the stool. Also, he's had no appetite today. So, off to the vet we went. All seemed normal upon exam and there was no blood or bone shards found during a rectal exam. Right now we're hoping it's colitis and it'll resolve itself. If anything gets worse, aka vomitting, abdomenal or rectal pain or guarding, more bleeding, etc, we'll be going for xrays and then who knows. I'm presently fixing him a boiled beef and rice dinner, which I hope will be more enticing than kibble.
Please send us good thoughts, thoughts of minor colon irritation instead of all the terrible things that pop into my head (intestinal perforation, pancreatitis, peritonitis, etc, etc).
I'll keep you updated!
