Our 57 lb Boxer won't come in the room if Butterbean is in the doorway
! We brought Mattie home in February 2006, she was 1 yr old (humane society) and Butterbean took one look at her and said "My house! And don't you forget it, new dog!" She was the only one who would stay in the room with Mattie, the rest took a while- they were waiting for that big, strange dog to go home
! Good luck with Charlie- he looks and sounds like a sweet, smart dog
.

Jenn, I've been thinking. You can't try to find his previous owners. I think he was honestly not happy where he was before, and I can just picture him like he was when you found him - having all this happiness and then wondering where you'd gone. If his first family were the ones who dumped him and you find them, they might do worse this time. If he was stolen, well, then the people who stole him will find him again if you find his owners.

I think whoever he belonged to does not deserve to have him, given the collar and the lack of training and all the other things you've said. And the fact that they didn't look after him well enough to stop him from being dumped out in the freezing cold (which I still think his owners did anyway). Feeding him enough does not make up for all the things they didn't do for him, that he missed out on. Not knowing how to play, well, that just breaks my heart in any dog, but especially a young dog.

I firmly believe he belongs with you, or the person YOU choose to have him, but not his previous owners who didn't treat him right at all.

There are so many of us here who's hearts this little dog has captured - without even meeting him! We want the best for him and so far, it seems like you are the best for him!

You know.........you are right!!! And I want Charlie here with me. I have already fallen for him. He is so sweet and he is realy beginning to fit in. I think if he went somewhere else, even a good place, he would wonder where we were... Him and Emmy have something special..

I have to make hubby fall in love with him. Charlie lalready oves my husband. All dogs do..... Something Juan has noticed about charlie is how he relaxedin the floor. He lays on his stomach and stretches his hind legs striaght out behind him and then stretches his front legs out in front. He lays in a straight line. "He's an airplane"!!!! But anyway, the reason Juan noticed this is because the dog who was the love of his life was a cocker spaniel named Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo lived 14-15 yrs old. And Bilbo used to lay this way too.

I have never seen anything like it except in those two dogs. I'm sure others do it but I have just never seen it.

And ok........no looking for the owners. We knocked on the two doors where we initially saw him in the ice and that's all.....

I've got to get him comfortable around the cats. That's will win Juan's heart. He has already said "If we didn't have three dogs already, we would keep Charlie"...... That's means he really likes Charlie a lot. And he has a lot of sympathy for him too. He keeps remembering how he looked in the ice. Juan was the one who got out of the truck to go get him. He carried him back to our vehicle and put him in the middle of the seats and a few mintues later he had his head on Juan's lap. Juan aimed the heater at him to warm him up...

I think your husband likes him too, maybe use the guilt thing on him, ( I want this to work, so I am willing to resort to any means here
) remind him how Charlie looked when ya'll found him, tell him that Charlie had probably never been loved, tell him anything, just so Charlie stays with ya'll.

JJ rules.

Charley is so fortunate that you and Juan have open your home and hearts to him.
I respect the caution you are taking to be sure none of the kitties get hurt.

He sounds like a smart boy and if he has not had a bad encounter with cats...he may be OK with them long term.

Could you take him to a vet to be checked & fixed right away?
That should help with any territorial issues he may tend to develop in the future.
He is just a sweetie pie Jenn.

Note to Juan....
Give in, you don't have a chance.

I don't know if I could ever love another log as much as I love Emma. I can love more than one but Emma is so devoted to me. She loves hubby but she belongs to me. Juan was working in Virginia when I adoped her and he did not see her until I had had her for quite a few months. Maybe 6. So when he took her side of the bed she was really put out.

When he got home he would get up real early and Emma would sit by my side of the bed and stare at him watching over me...hehe. She knew I let him in the house but she did not understand. She would not even eat bacon from his hand. He coudl not talk her out of getting our of the car. She only listened to me. We bonded. Juan did not t hink he would ever get her to trust him. Now she loves him too but she is still my dog.

With the bobcat/mountain lion situation we have going on right now, I take Emma with me everwhere.. I never walk without her to the creek.

She barks weird too. As a rule, she doesn't even bark. It takes a lot to get her to bark. If I go behind the yard without her now after her used to being with me, she howls.... She howls until I let her out of the yard. She is a funny girl. And I also got her the day after she had surgery and took care of her. We have had several things that have brought us very close...

Emma will always be my top dog. I love the others, but Emma is special to me...

She is pretty special...

Wow...where have I been to miss all of this wonderful excitement. Charlie is a doll...oh so cute! The cold weather really bothers me when I see animals out in it, or even think about animals being dumped or abandoned in this weather. I saw this poor outdoor cat huddle in the -21C weather we had here yesterday....he was big and healthy and well fed, but I almost raced across the yard and snatched him up into the car where it was warm!

Thank goodness you and Juan were in the right place at the right time to be guardian angels for Charlie!!! I can't wait to see the updates of his progress in your home!

OH my god....... I just looked around and JIMMY, the feral, was behind me staring at Charlie..... that is just too much. I'm kinda jealous that Jimmy likes dogs better than me........

Muffin is not sure if she is a cat. Here, her and Toe were waiting their turn at the water bowl... They let the babies drink first.

Also, all 5 young kitties there are Cow's babies. Of which three are JJ's as well. Starting from the top is Hank, Snoopy, Tulip, Princess Minny Pearl and Honey... And the black kitty in the rear is Cookie [Sock's baby from her final litter a couple yrs ago...] And the ear you see in the bottom is JJ's.... He loves the babies and sticks to them like glue.

I get paid Wednesday. I'll see if the vet can fix him on Thursday... If Juan nurtures him through aftercare, he is done duck.... Also, I think if I start taking charlie with us when we walk, he will bond with him..... Especially because Charlier prefers Juan to me... [the initialization of plan B]

The two little blond babies still need to be fixed. I might just get them all three fixed at one time.. I am ordering shot updates for all the older cats this payday to get them ready for the next year... I have found a shot called 5-?

FIRST STAGE, PLAN B

This stage involves getting husband emotionally involved. If he is emotionally involved with Charlie, the guilt trip portion of the plan will be more effective.

1 - HEART STRINGS PORTION
Tugged husbands heart strings by showing him all Charlies pictures.
The response was "AWWWWW" and "Come here Charlie" and "He looks so cute".

2 - THE SPECIAL NAME PORTION
Charlie is now being called Charlie Hound by both myself and husband.

PROBLEMS TO OVERCOME

A - Charlie will not sit for huband. Only me...

More updates on plan B later..

DO YOU KNOW IHAVE NOT SEEN CHARLIE POOP YET? I have watched for it and have yet to see him...

When he tinkles, he squats. If he is marking terrority, he hikes a leg.

Just now, Muffin tinkled, ... emma tinkled on Muffins spot... Charlie tinkled on top of that...... Molly watched.

Jenn....
Juan does not have a chance.

Will you make him think that keeping Charlie Hound was his idea or is that Plan C?

You have got to get a visual of Charlie poo.
If he is not going...
this could be a problem.
Do you think he may have worms?

He may need a little fiber (plain canned pumpkin works great; if you don't have the amounts, I can do a search on my dog website for you), or, he may just not need to go yet, if he didn't eat for a few days before you found him
. Might not hurt to give him some pumpkin anyways...

Just remember the word GUILT, say "poor poor poor thing, he had probably never been loved before, poor poor poor thing, he would froze to death if we had not come along, poor poor poor thing, look how sweet he is.

Just use the word poor poor poor a lot, it always works on my husband, and you could cry if that would help. Get back to me on that and I will get my daughter Desirée to call up your husband, she can cry at the snap of a finger if she has to. And she is very good at it too.
