Sweet & sour pork is in my slow cooker-using left over pork roast from a dinner I catered with a friend-just made the sauce & have to add pineapple, water chestnuts & bok choy later.

I made my chicken recipe yesterday and made enough for dinner tonight so it's just a matter of putting on some fresh veggies and nuking the chicken. (In the TCS cookbook called Mika's Cheesy Chicken ? , sorry I would have to go there to look at the whole name but some of you already have made it so you know.)

All of you people talking about cornbread...Mmmmm

Which reminds me, when I was little my grandmother would often make something that she called "ho cake" instead of corn bread. I loved it as a kid. It's like cornbread but more cakelike and not as course. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and have a good recipe they could shoot my way?

My first Dhubbys Grandfather who was 86 years old loved ho cakes I used to make them for him all the time when he came to Ca for vacation...Thanks for that memory

I used to just use the regular corn bread receipt or mix and then just make it thinner so it doesn't get to thick

You're welcome.

And thanks for the response. I'll see what I can come up with, but I need to get my hands on a good cast iron skillet first. And my mom always told me that you have to age one properly before it will give you good cornbread.
I'll call her and get the skinny on that process.

If I'm not mistaken you should Scrub the skillet with a stiff brush until clean. Dry. Coat the entire pan(making sure not to miss and corners or crevices) with Crisco. Bake in a 300 degree oven for 1 hour. Leave the pan in the oven until it cools, then wipe clean and place in a dry area.
And don't use soapy water to clean it just hot water and make sure you dry it completely

I'm with you - nothing beats a great homemade beef stew on a cold winter's night. We have that about once per week during the winter and hubby and our daughter look forward to it.
