Do birds need a special vet? I thought a vet trained in all aspects of "pet" medicine.

Avian medicine is so far removed from cat/dog/bunny medicine that aside from minor injuries and such, birds need Avian Vetrinarians, much like horses need equine vets.

Thanks you everyone for your kind words and prayers.

Abby is still hanging in there, still using a perch, still drinking.
She's sleepy, but alert, but she's still weak and puffed up.
She did take a few bites of her pellets without falling off her perch.
Quakers use their feet to eat in true parrot fashion.
I've just moved the hospital cage into the guest bath to give her some quiet for the night.

where in Utah are you?

I'm in Orem, and the nearest Avian certified vet is in Salt Lake, and I don't drive.

I have been on the phone with Abby's vet back in Seattle, I so wish I was there now.

I'm sorry to hear that Abby is not feeling well. Sending more good healing vibes your way.

More prayers from me. I hope she starts doing better soon. Its scarey how birds get sick. They hide it for so long. Alot of the time when they show they are sick its to late. Sounds like your girl is doing better though. I hope she feels better soon!

Just checking in on Abby

Just caught this post...sending lots of positive energy for waaaaaayyyyy over here!!!!

Abby is unchanged, but with a bird this is cautiously optimistic news.
She still weak and wobbly, but still alert and interested in food and water and still taking her meds like a good girl.
