but some things i say i cant put here sorry
what can i say after the first 300 times it gets annoying
i remeber this one time my friend who is 18 was at her grams house and telemarketers called and she sounds like a little kid and they said excuse me young lady is ur mommy home
man did she let them have it, and they still havent called back
sometimes tho when they say hello i just keep repeating hello what hello
they get really fustrated i remember at one point tho when i would pick up they would hang up on me because i would get fustrated like i said
so now i mess with them or hang up !! O and people always calling for my brother who doesnt live here and hasnt for like 5 years now !! People these days they just dont get the hint !! But when u keep saying hello and cutting them off they get mad and sometimes hang up on u

You have to read Nature Girl by Carl Hiassen. You'll see what one semicrazy lady did to the telemarketer who annoyed her. It was hilarious. But I'm not giving anything away.

Also check your local/state laws. For 1) It's illegal to telemarket a cell phone unless specifically requested by the cell phone owner and 2) In MI at least they are not allowed to call you more than once. Once you tell them never to call you again, they aren't suppose to without risking a legal action.
Tried this already. My cell phone company does not have the ability to block one number (and for all you users out there - it is the big company Verizon). They just don't have the ability and said just about the only thing they could do was change my cell phone number. Ummm..NO - I've had it for years! As for it being illegal to call me - I am on the do not call list, but just did it the other day. It does not go into effect for 30 days so there is nothing I can do legally for 30 days. So all the threats I give them now are nothing. It's not in the data base yet.

It sounds like it's a collection agency, but not for me. I've never done business with this company before and they are looking for some Jason dude. I've had this number for years, so my assumption is they are just going down some random list. As I said in the first post - look the 1-800 number up on the web. This is not a legitimate collection business. They are harassing tons of people in the same manner.

I got the name of the company. I got the name of the person calling. And then I told them, "I have all of your information and the number of times you have called, as well as documentation of when I asked to be removed from your calling list. If you call this number again, I will file charges against you personally and your company for harassment. Remove this number from your list NOW!"

Asking them to remove me 500 times didn't work. Hanging up on them didn't work - they would call back in 10 minutes. THIS tactic finally worked!
Again - can't do this for 30 days according to our national do-not-call list.

You guys are too much. I've never "officially" asked for membership into the gutter gang, but I'm so far down into the gutter you can't even see me - so yes......do share.

As for all the other suggestions - they're all great!!!
I love them all and am going to try them out one by one. I knew you guys would come through! You're all the best!!

Hello, I just found this forum while searching for info on the phone number you mentioned. Here are some ideas for you to have fun with them.

These ideas may not work for you but they could be fun. When they call pick up and immediately start reciting dialogue from a tv show or a movie.

Use them as a personal counselor (without the fee) just start rambling on and on about some crazy problem at work, school or whereever. Use them to vent about the line at the grocery store or the idiot you had to deal with at the bank or the fact that McDonalds doesn't serve Pepsi etc.

Pick up the phone and say "Pardon me but do you have any Grey Poupon?" Will definitely catch them off guard. When they say they don't say "Sorry I have to find the Grey Poupon and hang up"

Answer the phone "City Morgue, you kill them we chill them"

Write out a 20 question survey and everytime they call just ask the questions and upon completion say "Thank you for taking the time to complete our survey, one of our reps will be in touch if you are the winner of the monthly drawing" This could be fun depending on your questions.

Or when they ask for Jason you can break down in uncontrollable sobs and say "That SOB he did this, that and the other thing and left and if you find him let me know since the cops are looking for him too" After that everytime they call say "Did you find him yet?"

Good Luck with it and have fun with them.

We are on a do-not-call list, but occassionally we still get junk calls like those. If my parents answer the phone they just say they're on the DNC list, but I like to have a little more fun with it. The last call we got they asked for my father (Tim), and I just wen't off on a tear about how that "snake cheated on me 2 months ago with my cousin and I threw his butt out! But before he left he snatched my DVD player! So if you get a hold of that rat you tell him that I WANT MY DVD PLAYER BACK or I'm going to sic the cops on him!"

Mind you, I had been watching back-to-back episodes of Maury the day we got that junk call

Perhaps I should mention that I was a telemarketer.

You should be polite to them because if they have your telephone number they may also know where you live and have your credit card numbers.

A local dentist was rude to one of my co-workers and a bunch of them T-Ped his house.

I always give the telemarketers a sales pitch. Also asking for their home number gets rid of a few of them as well.

It is amazing how easily some of todays telemarketers give up.

I think they should have to be polite to you no matter what. Harassing people at all times of the day and all, it should just be one of the hazards of the job.
I used to let them launch into their spiel for 5 mins and just as they start to ask me stuff say - actually i'm only 17 so i can't answer this. and both my parents are out and won't be back for 6 hours.
This always seemed to do the trick. Then i'd hang up of course

My hubby and I use a couple of tactics depending on the mood we're in.

1) If they are asking for Jason, tell them he is dead.
2) Ask them to hold for a minute, then walk away for about 15-20 minutes. They usually hang up pretty fast.
3) Use the "F" word with them. Hubby uses it all the time and they usually hang up immediately.

TM: "I can't do that mam"

Me: "but you called me it's only polite to return your call"

TM: "I can't give you my number"

Me:"then why did you bother calling me"

TM: (Silence)

Me: "If I can't call you please don't call me in the future"

Still Hittin' 'Em Right Between The Eyes
My all-time favorite thing to do when a particularly stubborn and annoying telemarket calls is to answer the phone something like this:

Me: Hello?

Them: Yes, Mrs. F, we are calling about (whatever) ...

Me: Oh I am SO glad you called! You know, ever since the accident, well, no one ever calls and I am always SO lonely. It is nice to talk to someone for a change ...

Them: Well, I was calling about (whatever) ...

Me: Yes, it was a horrible shame about the accident ... the burns were the worst part of it, did you know that people who I THOUGHT were live-time friends don't ever come around anymore ... It's just wrong! That is why I am so glad you called ... and just today my doctor told me that if I didn't eat more fiber, I would stay constipated all the time and of course, well, the alternative would be a suppository laxative ... and let's just say I don't like to leave the comforts of my bathroom after plunking in one of THOSE babies ...

Usually they hang right on up and that does it. *grin*

I used to do this when I had a land line number... I sound young (and look younger than my 34 years), and used to get that all the time...

Now, if you've heard of Henry Rollins... on one of this spoken word DVD's (Shock & Awe...) he describes how he messed with a local TM one night... pretending to be an over-the-top gay man, and started hitting on the TM... asking where he lived and could he come over and have 'fun' ... the TM hung up so fast...

Me? I'd probably just use the F-word... at least a few times... especially if they don't ask for "mr and mrs..."

but then again... that's me...

or just pretend to be deaf "eh? eh? I can't hear you. did you say something? my batteries are dead." and hang up... another possibility.

Since this is not your debt, send a cease and desist letter and force them legally to stop calling you. If this is a communication from a collection agency, the letter in this link will do the best.

BTW collectors are not allowed to call you more than once in a 24/hr period. I would file a police report also.

an ice cube in Iowa...
I telemarketed for about 4 years while in college...and there has literally been NOTHING that hasn't been pulled on me from that other end of the line...

I guess I take a more sympathetic view towards cold-callers...I realize that they are annoying (heck, I already knew how annoying I was while doing the job), but it's a job that a lot of college kids (and adults) do that pays fairly decently, has flexible hours, and is relatively easy if you can handle all of the rejection. And these kids (most of them ARE kids) are put under quite a bit of pressure to meet their sales goals, earn their bonuses. I remember I wasn't ALLOWED to hang up on our leads until I rebuttaled the customer a minimum of 3 times.

So, when you leave a telemarketer hanging on the line, or put your kids on, or blow your whistle (REALLY mean, and could damage someone's ears) into the phone, or any host of other things that can be thought up, you're basically wasting time that the caller could be using to be actually making a real sale... Now, I do realize that their calls take up YOUR time as well, so just politely tell them, "I'm not interested, but I do appreciate your call," and hang up. Also, if you get another call from the same company, please realize that the telemarketer is NOT doing this deliberately. They call from a computer, not a telephone, and the leads are already in the computer, dialing you automatically...the seller has literally NO control over whether the system throws your number back into the mix. I think so many people think that a telemarketer has a list of people they call, and are making a conscious decision to call you from their phone...not true!

Anyway, I'm done. All that being said, I myself am on the DNC list...but when one slips by, and I receive such a call, I basically politely decline, tell them to have a good day, and hang up before they can continue.

My father always uses #2. He puts down the phone, has a whole side conversation with someone else in the room then picks it up and says "I'm sorry, I missed that last part - could you repeat that?"

Thanks for the info. I actually did find out some stuff about them as well and I later found out that they were calling for a Jason something or other. I don't even know a Jason, so I got as far as the first suggestion in this thread "hello this is Domino's, can I take your order", then after that I finally just went off on the lady and said "Listen, there is no Jason here, I don't know a Jason, and there will never be a Jason at this number". For some reason they stopped calling me. I was actually a little disappointed cause I wanted to use some of the stuff in this thread.
I will definitely keep these all in mind next time around though. There's some great stuff here!!!!!

They haven't called here since.
