Hi everyone! My Chloe is in CRF and loves to lick the juice from her can food. Any ideas on a gravy I can put on her food to keep it moist and that she can eat. I bought chicken stock but saw it has onion in it and I do not think that is good for cats (think I read on that on here). Also looked at premade gravy at the store and it has corn starch and wheat...do not think those are good either. Any suggestions? Thank you all.

You could try to make your own chicken broth to drizzle over the top. You could also try making a gravy-like substance by adding water to the rest of the food. What kind of food are you feeding right now? I do wish that Purina would bottle the Fancy Feast gravy--that way we could use it to entice picky kitties to eat foods that are better for them.

Thank you for your suggestions. I do use water to make some gravy in the can food she already is eating. Thought there might be something more substantial. All I can get her to eat so far for can food is friskies not for crf and Royal Canin modified formula they say is for crf. We tried k/d and a eukanuba one and she only likes the royal canin. Any suggestions on a can food for Renal failure?

Thank you.

You can try Hi-Tor (they have one, non-prescription, that is lower protein, lower phos for crf kitties)...www.petfooddirect.com carries it. I don't like the fact that it uses by-products, but if my crf guys will eat it, that's better then them not.
You can also go to (if you aren't already familiar with the site) www.felinecrf.org, and use a link you'll find there to the katkarma pages on phos/protein content in prescription and non-prescription dry and canned foods.

Though I agree Friskies isn't the best, I currently assist-feed my oldest crf kitty with Friskies Turkey and Giblets - special diet as it has 34 per cent protein and 165 mg per 100 Kcal of phos.

Keeping her eating is the important part. I've heard mixed reviews about the foods formulated for CRF cats anyway. This site describes some other options:

Further down on the list, there are links to sites (like Janet and Binky's) that list the phosphorus levels in many canned foods. If phosphorus is a concern with your kitty, you may want to look into phosphorus binders.
