So I volunteered at the shelter this morning and we have a gorrrrrrgeous long haired Siamese type cat in there. Looks very much like sbw999's Blueberry - beautiful long haired boy with amazing blue eyes.

He's only a year old. And he was surrendered to the shelter. Why? He was spraying. Was he neutered? Of course not!!!!

The shelter explained to the people that he sprays because he's not been neutered, and to neuter him, and bear with it, and gave them other ideas. Does this make a difference? Nope - they still surrender him.

What is WRONG with people??? So this poor, beautiful boy has to suffer in a shelter now, while everyone walks by and goes "oooooh he's beautiful, ewwww but he sprays".

Hopefully he'll go to a Siamese rescue

I'm shocked that they surrendered him without neutering- if Radar was spraying everywhere I'd go spare but thankfully he was neutered as soon as was legal here..
I can't see a Siamese being homeless for long however- they are such beautiful cats

Poor kitty. Some people are so stupid. They get an animal and dont bother to ake care of. My brothers cat would pee everywhere and she was spayed. She peed on his laptop. The vet even told him to put her to sleep. Well he didn't. Thank God. The cat got an apartment and let my brother come livee with her.
She doesant pee on everything any more. She hasnt had any accidents since she moved. If people would just try and work things out with their pet. Its very digusting when it happens to children. Some people would have babies but dont want ot take care of them. Children and animals are not commadaties, fashion statements, etc. They are living beings who need love and someone to take care of them. I know I am preaching to thec choir here. It just gets me so angry, exspecailly when it happens to kids.

Can't they erase the "spraying" part? It will stop once he's neutered. It's so unfair to have that on his record. The record should state "abandoned by stupid owners!"

These are probably the same people that try to return their kids if something is wrong with them.

"My baby continues to pee when I'm trying to change his diaper"

ummm...change the diaper FASTER

Well I suppose the good news is that most likely, a much better family will adopt him now. One that wont just toss him away at the first sign of a solvable problem...

That is so sad
My Joey pees in the house and he's been neutered
and we are certainly not getting rid of him because of it, he's on medication for crystals also.
We made a commitment to him and we will keep it, we LOVE him

Yeah, let's take the "spraying" comment off his card...it isn't helping him find a new home, for sure.

People can be so stupid. I don't know...it just seems like common knowledge to most people (whether they're cat-people or not), that an intact male animal will mark his territory.

With as beautiful as he sounds, I'm sure he'll find a home once the spraying thing is eliminated...

The problem is that he's still spraying. As soon as he gets into the play area, he sprays everywhere. People need to be aware of the problems they face if they adopt him. If it's not there, they'll adopt him, he'll probably spray, and be back within days.

I don't know much about spraying, but hopefully it will stop now he's neutered. People still need to be aware though. There's 2 bits of paper on their cages - one colourful piece talking about the cat, and the official bit with their details - ID number, whether they were surrendered/found, and if found, whereabouts etc. That says - owner surrender - spraying.

They haven't done up the nice pretty page yet (he's only just gone to the adoption room), but that won't say it. They will have to tell anyone interested in adopting him about it though.
