When do you file your taxes?

Do you wait until the last possible second, and then file an extention? Be honest!

We'll be trying to sort ours out ASAP. We've got Australian income and US income, and the Australian tax year is July-June so it's all a bit of a pain in the bum!

Do you still have to file taxes in the US?

I'm not sure, I just send my Dad all of my stuff and he does them with our accountant back home!
Once I get my W-2 from my former employer, I'm all set

Because of a family partnership, I can't file until after April 1. I have to wait for the paperwork.

The first January after we were married, DH came running in with his w-2 saying we can file taxes and get his refund.
I had to sit him down and tell him that a) we won't be filing until after April 1 and b) there would be no refund because of the partnership. The only good news for him was that I would be doing the taxes.

We usually do not have all the needed paperwork until early march. Due to some of the stock we own the tax prep is quite complicated-adding more interest this year with my business!! Thank goodness Neil is a CPA or we would have to hire the tax work out. We (he) tries to have then paperwork done by the end of March. He also does my parents and my sister's taxes.

Although last year I was able to get a refund and then I was AUDITED before I could get the refund. It wasn't until last month that I finally got my 2005 refund.

I hope that doesn't happen again this year.

I use TurboTax and usually the day I get the last W2, either mine or my wife's, as long as I have all our bank and loan interest statements and anything else I need, I file. Even when I could use Telefile before I was married I did it right away.

I think it's more about getting my, I mean OUR money right away than just getting it out of the way
