How to stop kitten from biting and clawing?

My new kitten,Quigley, likes to get up around my neck and lay but he also likes to bite my face and lips. He also bites and claws my hands when he gets in my lap. How can I stop this behavior. I know discipline doesn't work but what can I do
He is so cute but this is frustrating cause his claws hurt.

Tell him a firm NO! and if he still tries to bite your face, put him down. Sephie used to give me love bites on my face all the time and when he wouldn't stop after I told him no, I would put him on the floor. He got the hint that if he wanted on my lap, he would have to stop biting me.

For scratching, same thing..i would tell him NO...bring him to the scratch post and take his paws and do the clawing motion on the scratch post.

They do learn..just be consistent with it and he'll learn that it's not ok to scratch and bite.

pp is right. Another thought, if you have a scratching post, does he use it? If he doesn't, try putting his paws on it like pp but also, show him by doing it yourself. We did this when Escher was a kitten and he LOVES it when we go and scratch with him, apparently it's a social activity for cats. But don't go and "social scratch" everytime we takes a swipe at you, otherwise he'll learn that's how he's supposed to ask to social scratch! The NO and ignoring usually works wonders, especially on the attention-loving kittens!

Thanks, that is what I have been doing. The clawing I referred to is to me at the same time as biting. He hasn't started clawing "stuff" yet.

Young kittens haven't learned to retract their claws, so he might not be clawing you intentionally.
