While I took my newly adopted 8yo female to the vet to have a general exam, I asked the vet to check out a little bump/lump she has on the underside of the neck. It's about the size of a pea. The vet thought it might be a pellet (I'm disgusted that this actually happens!!!), but she did a "punction" on it and it wasn't. So she took a sample and it's being analyzed as we speak. She said it looked "fatty".

Anyone have experience with small lumps like that? Could is just be a fatty deposit?

This vet is a big fat ZERO in bedside manners. She just said we'd get it analyzed to see if it's cancerous and offered no other possible outcome... I just might be in denial, but I'm really optimistic that it's going to be nothing...

Any thoughts?

Hi,

Based on your other posts, it could be a swollen lymph node - from the cold/flu that she has. It would depend on where the bump is, but it's a thought. I would think the vet would recognize a swollen gland, though

I`m definitely going to see if I can find another vet. Can I ask for a written statement of the results of the test though? If it's something that needs to be removed, I don't necessarily want to have to pay for a second analysis from another vet. It's too bad because the rest of the staff at the clinic was very nice.

I don't think it's her gland. It's much too small. It's hard enough that she thought it was a pellet. Seems to be somewhat attached to the skin from the inside but it's not the skin itself (if that makes any sense).

Seems a little swollen since she took the sample... poor Kitty.

When you change vets (I've done it), you can request the old vet to forward copies of your kitty's file to the new vet - they may charge a nominal fee of say $15.00 or so but then the new vet will have all the pertinent info on your kitty.

Might be a cyst. Did the vet try to drain it? Also, you are entitled to copies of the results, and you can ask for your records to be transferred to a new vet. They can charge a fee to cover copies, but that's about it. Make sure that if you've had any x-rays or other tests done, that those get sent along as well.

I'll definitely ask for a paper copy of the results. That's the only thing they really have on her since that was our first visit. I don't know if she "drained" it (it doesn't have a head, there's nothing showing on the surface at all), but she took a needle to it and drew a sample. She said it looked "fatty". The bump is actually a tiny little bit bigger since, I'm thinking it's probably a little inflammation from the procedure?...

Is it warm to the touch? If so, I'd worry about it getting infected. When the vet drew out the contents of Spot's cyst, it looked like kind of like fat or congealed oil.
