Should we rename her?

Mojo was named by the rescue when they thought she was a boy. We kept the name so far, because at the time we thought it fit, but now I'm not sure it does. She doesn't answer to it anyway.
Earl isn't so sure about renaming her, but I think she needs a name that is more fitting to *her*.

So, she's a snuggler at times, but she's also a very HYPER little kitten. She is also a total garbage can when it comes to food - she tries to eat everything, and she will inhale a can of wet food in like 5 minutes.
She's my Lil' Baby and nuzzles and kneads my neck at night.

So, should we re-name her, and if so, any ideas?

We were watching Futurama tonight and Earl said we should name her Nibbler since she's such a little piglet. Considering how much trouble she was getting into at lunch, I suggested Shi-Thead (take out the dash for the real meaning, but it would be pronounced in that spelling...I got the idea from Rebecca from a "Worst Names Ever" threads
). Of course we weren't really serious about those names.
But that might give a little more insight into her purrsonality.

I don't see why you can't rename her...I never call my cats by their names anyway, we call Severino, LouLee all the time and he comes so, as long as you keep using the name they will get used to it in my opinion.

I never thought she looked like a Mojo... Mojo's a boy's name!!

If you give her a name that ends in O, she won't get too confused. Before too long she'll have known her new name longer than her old name!

I would say that if her name doesn't "fit", then try a new one.

Leo used to be Gabriel...pretty name, but he's just not a Gabriel. Leo suits him much better.

Gracie was Petunia, which makes me think of little old ladies, not rambunctious little calicos with humongous eyes. She was nameless for a good few days before getting her name from someone on TCS!

Raphael was renamed Miles by Ian and I, but it really just didn't suit him. So we reverted to Raphael. Miles would have sort of "matched" better with the names Leo and Gracie, but it just...wasn't right for him. Raphael suits him, so that's his name, even though it was not my first choice and probably not something I would have thought of.

Same here. My kitties have their "official name" like for the Vet and stuff, but I have many nicknames for them. They answer them as well. I like Nibbler and Munchie (Munchie is what my hubby wants to call our future bulldog - if we ever get one)

This early in her life I see nothing against renaming her, particularly if, as you say, she doesn't answer to her name anyway. I went looking for "black" names, and stumbled on this. The ones you normally run into are there: Ebony, Onyx, Soot, etc., and lots that would never have occurred to me
, but the one that I can't get out of my head is "Magpie"! A Magpie in my house, would almost certainly get Maggie. I think both would be cute now, and stay fitting as she gets older. Of course, if she doesn't agree, that's the end of that.

She doesn't seem to be used to it, so I wouldn't worry, especially as it doesn't suit her.

Nibbler is not a bad name, I think it's cute especially if she is.

If she eats alot and is a naughty diva you could go with somthing like "Soprano" - most opera divas are Sopranos, or you could get funny and name her after an opera character - and link into her coat colour at the same think - like Aida for instance, or particularly if she has a lower, or richer meow Amneris is Aida's rival.

I think given the fact that she's still so young changing her name won't be a big deal. If there's a name you feel suits her better than Mojo, then go for it!

If you don't feel that Mojo is the right fit for her I say go ahead and change it

As much as I like the name Mojo for a black cat, you're right, it is too masculine for her. But as sleek and velvety as she appears to be, she needs an elegant name that will fit her as she grows up. She may be a little nibbler now, but she will be a princess later.

She looks like a Natasha or Cleopatra to me.

If she doesn't recognise mojo as her name already then change it. I am sure that many of the people on this site don't even know the names their shelter kitties have had in the past, or even if they had been given a name!

Someone suggested Magpie, I really like that as they are mischeivous and intelligent birds which would suit her hyper nature, and you can shorten it to Maggie as a nickname for when she's being soft and snuggly.
