Is that his 'manly' way of saying YES!?

Come on... new kitty!!

I think it IS his manly way of saying yes. lol

We were on the couch play arguing about something and he said, "Come on! I'm getting you a new kitty!"

I find the best way to persuade a man to agree to something is to construct the conversation so that he ends up thinking it was his idea in the first place

But it sounds as if your way worked just fine, if he's agreed to go look then that's 90% of the battle - once he sees them who could resist?

Could anyone provide me with a link to an introduction procedure thread so I can start reading up just in case....?

Honestly, housecats ar generally better behaved when they have another housecat to play with. I'm not a big fan of single cats living in homes (although it's certainly not a terrible thing to do)...I just think that cats interact better with us human when they have the socialization/interaction with one of their own. The whole thing about cats being solitary is definitely an old wive's tale.

Her personality will change slightly during the initial intro period. Be prepared for hissing, growling and hiding on the part of both cats when they first meet face to face (which shouldn't happen until after the first week home). Once a few months have passed, Anya will settle back into her old self if she's like most other cats. Some adjust faster, some take a little longer, but the vast majority of cats really appreciate the company once they figure out their territory issues.

If you can afford another kitty, I strongly recommend you adopt another!

Yeah because of course I detect no excitement about his imminent arrival in that post

Emily, do what I did....just come home with it. No what I did, was come home with it when he wasn't home, start the acclimating process, and then when he was going to walk in the door, I stuck the kitten out in my hand.....
He kept saying, nope take him back, I don't want her upset! And now look, Louie doesn't even love him momma anymore, and my DH is in his glory!
(I have even heard him say -out loud mind you- I never loved an animal so much, how did I ever get by without you two?)

Here is the definitive article on introducing cats.

http://www.thecatsite.com/Behavior/4...cing-Cats.html

I don't know if it's mentioned in the article, but having some Feliway around never hurts in the process. We found the spay was pretty effective. Actually more effective than the diffuser for when it got a little tense between Ophelia and Ginger. There really haven't been any problems introducing Mojo to all three of the others, and I think at least part of that is because she is just a kitten herself.

That is great.. My husband did the same thing,, said we'd go look and then the whole week make remarks like.. "I'm getting you a new cat,, aren't I,,, you shoudl be nice to me... blah blah"..

That's how I got Chessy and then Seren, I saw on Petfinder,, and I sent him the picture then beggged and begged, and puppy dogg looked beg, and then he finally caved in.. He didn't want 3 cats,, he thought 2 was enough...

I'd eventually like to get one more,, but I'm not gonna push my luck,, maybe when the perfect little cat comes my way.. Then I can do some more persuading..

BTW: I ended up just putting my cats together, no real introduction,, I tried the vanilla and stuff, and that never really worked with us.. It takes time for them to mesh,, at least it did with Angel and Seren.. Now Angel and Chessy were friends at the adoption place,, which I didn't know that until we showed up to get Angel a friend like 3 weeks after we had gotten Angel..
It was fate...

I just finished reading the introduction articles. I actually have a pocket door with about 1.5 inches clearance underneath that would be perfect for this process. Look at me making plans already. I'm trying to to get my hopes up....whoops too late.

it'll still be hers. trust me - no one plays with Java's furry secret santa mouse but her - & she's not even top kitty! Anya will be top kitty, at least until the little one grow up!

especially with Cable & Java, i had no real problems. Cable was about 8 months old, Java was about 3.5 months old - once Java was vetted, i let her out to play & they had loads of fun! i did keep Chip segregated for a while, but not as long as the article says to - i just don't have the space/time required. i did use feliway & vanilla to ease things along, tho.

once your past the 1st 2 weeks it's smooth sailing.... the thing now is, me & DH sit around sad,
LuckyGirl only wants to play with Louie....she doesn't want to play with us anymore....
And while she grooms his daily, I only catch them really cuddling 2-3 times now....alot of times, they'll be sleeping butt to butt, or head to head, but not one pile of kitty fur..... I am ok with this, as LuckyGirl is not much of a cuddle bug that way anyway. I can remember when he was just 10 weeks, and she 1st let him get close to her, he tried to suckle on her, and she karate chopped him in the head!

AHA! Brian was IMing with a mutual friend who forwarded it to me. They were trying to get us to come over this weekend. Here's how it went:

Brian: Probably. Honestly, Em is trying her darndest to talk me into getting another kitten. We're planning on going to check out a litter of polydactyls on Saturday. She'll most likely be coming home with one of them. So this weekend might not be the best, since I'm sure she'll be hanging out with the new one a lot.
