I have a 6 year old male cat who's having some litter box issues for the last few days. I have made an appt to go to the vet tomorrow, but I wanted to try to get as much info as I can before then (education never hurts!).

I've noticed his poop is softer than normal, but I would not say it is diarrhea. He will very frequently go to the littler box and try to go, but nothing happens. I've also noticed a few reddish drops on the floor next to the box, I dont know if it is blood or not, it doesn't look like blood to me, but I dont know what else it could be. Also he has been licking more than usual.. Other than that he seems quite normal and happy!

Any advice / ideas ? The vet wants to do an exam and stool test and go from there...

Oh I am sorry to hear that your kitty is having problems - I don't know what it could be, but you are definitely doing the right thing by taking him to the vet. I will have my fingers crossed for you that it is something very very minor and easily treated
Please let us know what the vet says, we worry about other people's cats, even if they are new to this forum! Welcome to TCS

Sounds like a UTI. Definitly get him into the vet tomorow. If it turns to be a blockage it could kill him in 48 hours.

I'm not too sure what the cause could be either, but I'm sure there will be people along shortly to help out.

Sending many good health vibes for your kitty

If he is in the litterbox, straining to go, I would suggest a urinary tract infection.

A week or so of antibiotics should clear him right up. Let us know how he makes out, OK?

The vet found Loki had an impacted anal gland. Surprise to me, I didnt know cats had such things! (I have heard it is common in dogs, though). They fixed that up, and gave me some antibiotics.. Hopefully this is it, and he starts to feel better soon.

Thank you all for posting..
