Hi I need to get a sturdy scratching post with large places to sit for my big cat. Any recommendations?

THanks, Marsch, it does look very nice! But that's not in my budget. What is the brand? Maybe I can find something sturdy with large seating in my budget?

2 of my cats are around 18 and 20 LBS, so I really need sturdy because otherwise just from running down the cat tree they can tip it over. The above tree I have and it is sturdy. I also have some trees that I got at armarkat.com that I bought 2 to nail side by side into a piece of plywood and use rope to hold them together to make them more sturdy.

You might look into building a simple one yourself (or with help). The basic to keep in mind is a good strong large sturdy base so it can't be tipped over or knocked over when jumping. The ones with the logs as the trunk of the tree are probably better then an all wood one.

My husband and I built Dukes cat tree. Actually, we re-built it over the holidays. When I get home, I'll post some before and after pics.

Nial (Kai Bengals) has a really cool looking cat tree that someone built for him. He posted a pic in his New Addition thread. Really cool!

i bought this one on eBay for $71. i have 4 cats, ranging in size from 8.5 pounds to 14 pounds. i've attached it to the wall with l-brackets, just to be on the safe side.

well, my dad told me it was stable, but it bugged me, rattling against the wall every time they ran up on it - if it fell, it would've fallen on my bed, most likely. anyway, i feel much better now, & it doesn't make any noise at all when they jump around on it. & i only used 2 brackets.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! They all sound very sturdy. Do your condos have squares that are large enough for a big cat to sleep on comfortably?

I think it ia a small business. If you search for Playtime workshop in Google you'll find it.

My perches are around 14 x 14. Only one of the 2 big cats really sleep on there, but they both can fit.

I got this one on eBay for $40 and $20 shipping.

The main condo is 14x14. That's about as big as they come, but this one has extra room outside the doorways. Puppy likes to stretch out diagonally through the condo.

If you have a petsuppliesplus near you....they sell the best i've found. I bought a 6 foot with really big sturdy perches. I have a 21 lb kitty and a kitten. Remy can jet across the room and run up into it without it moving at all...
The one i bought from amarkat just wasnt as solid...

I've been looking at a tree at PSP, and I agree they are very sturdy. I have this tree right now, and my 15 pound kitty and a five pound kitten were sleeping in the condo together this evening. I do wish it was a bit sturdier though; it's never tipped over, but it does rattle against the wall as a previous poster mentioned, and that is with it wedged between two other large pieces of furniture.

I have bought many Armarakat brand cat trees on the ebay auctions. I also have many Ragdolls that run up and down them and sleep on them and they have never caused us any problems, very sturdy and have never fell or wobbled under the 18lbs of Raggie.
On Ebay is the Armarakat store, you can buy straight from there, but we always search "cat trees" on ebay, and do the auctions instead. We have 5-7 foot cat trees, that were 99 cents to purchase and shipping was anywhere between $55-90, they have a 6 month warranty on them and are so easy to put together that I was able to do put ours together one handed when I had a broke wrist. I recommend this brand to everyone, but especially those with larger cats.

This tree looks great and the perches are large enough 15x15. Now they say two perches but I count four. Are two of them on the bottom smaller and considered steps, not a place for the cats to rest?

Wow that's a great deal. Now it looks like again there are four perches and also room to sleep on top of the "box" (the cube that the kitty can hide in)?
