I hope it's locked tonight! I check the locks a million times before I go to bed. that's how paranoid I am.

I live in an apartment and always have my door locked.

I remember once not long after I moved here that I had left the door unlocked and sometime during the evening I was laying on the couch watching TV when some strange guy walked into my apartment! I don't know who was more surprised, me or him. He lived a floor above me and in his haste to get home he got off on the wrong floor and didn't realize it!

Ever since then I make sure that my door is locked when I close it and I double check it before heading to bed just to make sure.

Esp because I think there is someone who comes through the building and checks for doors that are unlocked. I've heard the door jiggle a couple times.
OMG
I would be moving if I heard that

I have to make sure my doors are locked a million times before I can go to bed too.
One time I was laying in bed and heard a ladies voice saying ''hello?'' over and over and it turns out she just walked right in the back door.
She said her and her boyfriend had gotten into a fight and she needed to use the phone to call the cops. I am glad she wasn't some psycho killer or something.

Well I am now parinoid about making sure. When we first moved into this house about a month after moving in my daughter decided to sleep downstairs. She was 8 at the time. My husband and i both checked to make sure doors were locked and went up to bed. About 2 in the morning we both woke up to the sound of a door opening. The dog started barking so as we came down to check we say the front door closing and my daughter came racing up the stairs screaming "SOMEONE CAME IN THE HOUSE!!!!" tAlk about flipping out. We never found out who it was and the only thing we could think of was since we just moved in maybe someone still thought the other people lived here and had a key and when they came in and saw our stuff or kid left we dont know. But needless to say we changed locks and got door alarms. My daughter just started reccently to try sleeping downstairs when she has friends over again. Never have I been so scared thinking what could have happened.

You definatley cant leave your door unlocked here in the uk, theres too much trouble goes off.Luckily its not so bad where i live, but you can get it anywhere cant you.

There's no place like home
I grew up in Chicago where everyone locks their doors. I remember my mom locking her car inside the locked garage!

Then I moved to the country and was aghast when I found out that people didn't lock their doors, and in fact my SIL actually used to leave her purse in the unlocked car in the driveway. I've adjusted over the years. One time we left for a week's long vacation and came home to find the front door wide open (oops). We went for years without locking our doors until we moved into the current house which is in a less rural area. Now we find it hard to remember to lock the doors when we go out, and often come home to find the house open. Good thing we have big dogs.

I am an insane door locker....and we live in a very nice part of the city, alot of people don't even lock their doors when they leave the house....I lock the door & my car all the time, even when I am inside! DH gets annoyed, he'll run to the store & come back & I locked the door....he always says "babe, no one is going to kid-nap you! And if they did, don't worry they'd return you in less than 24 hrs"

I've done that before. The thing that bothers me is when I have it unlocked when taking a shower. Your very vulnerable in the shower, now if I was woken up by an intruder I could wack them with a pillow to stun them and then kick the crap out of them.
