Actually, the saying is if you see an owl in the daylight, or you see a white owl fly by you at night, this is supposed to mean someone close is going to die. It is an old indian tale. Hearing owls means nothing

One time in Scotland I was staying at a remote cottage in the highlands. I took the dog out to pee very earling on a foggy morning, and I was standing there an owl flew out of the mist about a metre away from me, dissappeared again. It was completely silent, and I just happened to be looking in the right spot. That made my day, and is still a cool memory.

Last year my mother and I were laying out on the roof of the family room at night looking for consellations with star charts, and we had an owl swoop down on us! We kept hearing the call from different spots. One was pretty close, then a big dark object went swoosh, litterally within 10-15 feet of us!

I've heard owls can be preditors to kitties. It's one of the many reasons I keep my cat in at night.

Its so funny that you said you heard an owl because about a week ago I heard a hoot owl but it wasn't too close. I worry about them being near because we have small dogs.

The only thing that hearing an owl means, is that there's an owl nearby

Owls are beautiful creatures
I once had the pleasure of meeting a rescued Tawny owl (it was found injured and was being rehabilitated for release), and it was a stunning bird
