Has anyone tried one of those water filtration bowls they sell in the pet stores? My cats love to play in the water, often its all empty when we get home (or very very dirty). We bought one of these for them for Christmas and not only does it work well at keeping their water clean and fresh, but it dispenses more water as needed, making sure they always have water during the day.

The only down side to it for us is that it needs to be plugged in -- so I had to relocate their feeding area out of the kitchen and into the dining room. I recommend this product if you have multiple cats!

I have one I bought at Wal Mart, the cats like to drink the flowing water. Only thing I don't like about it is the location of the filter. I wished the filter would be located before the pump instead of after, I'm always cleaning debris out of the pump.

We have one. My cats all like it, and Delilah drinks a lot more now that we've started using it. (Before the fountain she'd mostly only drink out of the running tap.) The only thing I don't like is that it is much more of a pain to clean than simply tossing a bowl in the dishwasher! I think it's worth the extra effort, though.

I just got one myself. Zissou seems to like it, she always drinks out of the little stream instead of the bowl now, and doesn't have to put her paw in first to see where the water level is.

She always has dranken a ton of water, so I can't speak to that, but our water is heavily chlorinated so I'm glad for the filter.

The first day I had it set up she was too busy playing with it to drink it, but since then I've had to refill the reservoir every other day!

If you browse through the Care and Grooming forum, you'll find plenty of threads about drinking fountains for cats, the pros and cons of the brands available, experiences, etc..

I have a Drinkwell and my older cat LOVES it! She's always loved drinking from the faucet, and once I got the fountain, she started drinking more water, which helped out a lot of other areas for her. My other cat, doesn't like drinking from it because she has to push the water to the side of the bowl, then lick it off the side. Doesn't work too well when the water keeps moving! I also have a mug of water on the bathroom sink for them as well as 2 bowls in other parts of the house.

I got one of those "fresh flow" by PetMate drinking fountains for Niki, she loves it..when it was new to her she would splash water all over. I got one of those pads that absorbs water to put under it (along with having a towel close by). I drilled a hole in my kitchen desk, so I could keep the fountain in the kitchen & have the cord run up thru the hole to nearby outlet.
It is plastic vs stainless steel but my thinking is since it runs continuously & has filters you change out now & then it will be fine.

I got the PetMate and clean it thoroughly every Saturday, i.e., empty all the water, take it apart (really easy to do), clean it thoroughly and refill. Mika likes drinking from the running area and Bijou likes the bottom part. If the daily clumps in their litter box are any indication, they both are drinking plenty of water.

Thanks! I'll do that!
It sounds like the little fountain flow on these products is a big hit with all of the cats! How cute!

We have the fresh-flow and the cat-it and they drink from both equally (although Bumper has taken to a strange fascination of pawing water out of the fresh-flow bowl and onto the floor recently)

that's a great idea - i wish you had designed mine! i have both the petmate freshflow & the catit. the freshflow is much easier to clean, IMO, & i think the cats prefer it - altho they drink from both of them. but when the catit stops working, i'm replacing it with a dog-sized freshflow!

My cat's love their drinking fountain. It has lessened my trips to the bathroom before i go to bed refilling their water glass! They drink so much from the fountain that they aren't thirsty before bed.

How often do you change the charcoal filter? I always use Brita water and I'm wondering if I even need the filter.

I rinse the filter in purified water every two weeks along with taking apart the fountain & rinsing out the diff. parts. I change the filter every month.
Keeping it filled it with purified water from Culligan.

I've been using the Petmate Freshflow but I think my cat was on the Drinkwell fountain before that. He drank out of it periodically but favored the toilet bowl even more!
So I decided to try the Drinkwell fountain since it has a mini waterfall. It worked well for the first 30 minutes until I found a leak at the pump. Back to the drawing board...

I'm going back to the water bowl and fill it with brita filtered water everyday for now until I decide whether I want to invest in the new Drinkwell Fountain (which can hold a gallon! Whew!~ Don't think I need that for one cat though.
