She was looking out the windows (they are open today, it is 63 degrees out!!!) and I noticed a trio of squirrels in the backyard near the trash cans, so I went out and threw a couple of handfuls of peanuts around the yard.

Ginger is now happily entranced, watching the squirrels come really close to the windows as they munch on the little snack I thoughtfully provided to them. Aren't I a good Meowmy!?

Very kind of you! I bet that's quite a show. Lucky Ginger!

I'm actually enjoying peace and quiet right now, as everyone is sleeping and nowhere do I hear the pitter patter BANG of a cat chase, the meow of lonely isolated post-neuter kittens in the bedrooms or the clap clap clap of doggy feet investigating the hallway. Phew, I'll have to remember this, it doesn't happen often!

Oh yes, my babies are indoor only kitties, whether or not they were born outside!

I love feeding the squirrels - when I was a little girl, we had one in the neighborhood that would take food from my hand.
I think they are so cute!

My Grandfather had a photo he took published once of a chipmunk eating out of one of my cousin's friend's hands. I'll probably be a squirel feeder someday too.

Don't mean to be a spoilsport, but make sure you don't give squirrels raw peanuts - they can apparently be quite harmful to squirrels.

Hazelnuts are much better for the little critters.

They are roasted and came from trail mix. I've got no squirrel blood on my hands.

Edit: And no WAY am I giving up any of my Hazelnuts!

Over the river and through the woods...
Awww...I love squirrels! And chipmunks. We just moved out in the middle of nowhere and we have them all over the place! I got a birdfeeder for Christmas and hung it in a tree by the window and my cats spend all day just watching. I was afraid they would get agitated and try to break the window but they are content just laying there and observing. And the birds we get are beautiful! I don't know what most of them are! I actually saw a falcon today...not a the bird feeder of course, just soaring the sky. It was awesome! Hopefully, my kitties are smart enough to leave that one alone!

You are a wonderful meowmy! I put peanuts on the deck all the time and the squirrels, chipmunks and blue jays collect them there. I open the blinds for the french doors and the kitties can sit there for hours entertained and making little chirping noises. I call it their floor show. They get all excited when they see the bag of peanuts coming out (or when a squirrel is peeking in the doors to see if I'm around to feed them).
