Hi everyone. I tracked down this forum because I have a couple questions about my cat. She's 14 now and I love her sooo much. This past week I was sitting with her, she was asleep like normal, but when I tried to wake her up she wouldn't wake up. I kind of thought she was having a bad dream which was why I tried to wake her up. But I was moving her head around and it was limp in my hand. It really scared me.

And today it happened again. I was putting my hand down to pet her and she didn't wake up, and the same thing happened where I was moving her head and it took a longer time than normal for her to wake up. I've also noticed some breathing irregularities with her too. But I know cats get colds all the time so I'm not too worried about that. Anyways I would really appreciate some insight. Should I take her to the vet? Tell me what you think.

Thank you.

I am also the owner of an elderly cat. The difficulty you have been having when you try to wake your cat up doesn't sound normal to me at all. Please take her to a vet ASAP for a thorough exam and blood tests. Good luck.

I would get her into the vet too. Did she have her senior bloodwork done yet? If not then have them do that for sure.

Good luck.

Yes, please get her to a vet. It could by any number of things causing her to do that, and many conditions in older cats are manageable with treatment. 14 is indeed a senior cat, but sometimes cats can live well into their twenties, so please don't assume all is lost because of her age.

Please let us know how she does.

Thanks everyone, I'm certainly going to try to take her to the vet. I just don't have a lot of money right now. The joys of being a starving student. Anyways thanks for your advice

Thank you very much for that link. I'm going to do some more research into cat health, and veterinary options. My cat, Caramel, is so important. I've had her since I was six, she's my oldest friend. I don't want to lose her, and I would like to see her live well into at least her early 20's.

Hi Leeana, it's been a while since you told us Caramel was having problems. I was just wondering if you were able to get her to a vet and if you had any updates for us.
