Hi everyone. I am new here and so happy to have found you all! Seems like you are well-educated about your cats.

My questions are about nutrition for my kitty. Oh, BTW her name is Fiona, she is a tuxedo cat. About a 1 1/2. She has herpes
and has an ulcerated cornea and respitory issues as well. The "usual" issues.

I am very concerned with her nutrition as i know it can really affect her health. It is part of the reason she was so sick to begin with. I am giving her smelly fishy meow mix wet food. 2x a day. once w/500mg of Lysine. and i keep nutromax dry food out for her to "free-feed" as you guys call it

Any other general opinions as to how i can make her more happy and healthy overall would be appreciated. I have the humidifier on in my bedroom where she sleeps most often, and i give her the lysine. I am also getting an oreck filter anyday now UPS (so excited
) What other tools + tricks of the trade can i use??

This is already a long post but if you want to know her story i will write it on the board for newbies
Thanks for any help and advice you can give me!

I would "upgrade " to natural choice if it is an option ... no wheat and some higher vitamin and mineral levals... I am NO expert on herpes ..

Welcome to TCS fifi1puss!

The only thing I have to add is that many of us who use L-Lysine boost the dose to 1000 mg a day when there are flare-ups of any sorty.

Sounds to me like you've got a pretty good handle on things though.

Thanks Sharky! Is natural choice part of the natura brand? I saw a link for that here and it looked very wholesome. Are you also talking about wet or dry food. She prefers wet. What makes a good cat food good? What is a definate no-no...other than the obvious gross by-products....ick.

Thanks Tru. I was concerned about that...she seems to be maybe in a stressful place right now for whatever reason. I have had visitors over the last two weekends. My neice overnight and my mom for a few hours. She took quite well to them (even curled up to sleep near my mom) awww. But I know that changes can cause stress. She is still new here and perhaps thats why. Trial and error i suppose. I will up it to 1000 though....thank you.

Any other advice would be SO appreciated. I am an anxious meowmy!
Feel free to pm me.

Agreed. 500mg is a maintenance dose to prevent flare ups. You double it (for an adult cat) if they are showing active signs of herpes.

If you haven't found it, they sell lysine in a powder form that is much cheaper than pills. I found mine on iherb.com.
