kitten w/ distemper........ help!

my sister's kitten has distemper.. we didn't get her the shots she needed .. the vet sayz that it would cost between 200 and 250 dollars to get her fixed and i need to know what her chances would be to live and if she did live how long and what do we need to do really help!

If the kitten is less than 8 weeks old, the prognosis is not good. Older cats can with supportive therapy and help sometimes live through this disease. There is no known antibiotic that can cure this disease. Your best defense and what you vet is looking at is probably to try and keep the immune system going and strengthen it if he can. The kitten needs to be kept in strict isolation, kept as warm as possible. Give it a nice dark place to lay down in, a cat carrier covered partially with a dark cloth is good. Don't be afraid to pet this kitten and love on it and reassure it as much as you can, as it will need all of this. Good luck.
