Just try to stay relaxed. Cats can see you being tense (and maybe smell it too, who knows?) and pick up on it. Calm owner = calm cat.

I suggest hot chocolate. Perhaps with a dash of something stronger.

That sounds like very good beginning behavior. You all hang in there, ok? If you need us, we are here.

My theory is that the first stage of labor will end when you absolutely, positively have to go somewhere or do something...

Hey sweetie. Kali is ok, yes? She's eating, drinking, using the litter box, she's picked a place to have her babies, she is not coughing, sneezing, refusing to eat?? (boy, I sound like an Irish mother for pete's sake)

I've had two cats in the past who have given birth to 4 kittens, each, and neither one of them nested in any kind of comfy place, yet, both went back to the same birthing place to give birth to their second litters. I had to make it safe and warm for em.These both were Ragdolls, blue and white, (very cute and socialable) both daddies waited and watched while mommies delivered, but, I don't think they liked it too much, occasionally the moms let the dads know to git back dude, not too close. !!! And the Dads kept they're distance. Kinda the way my wife treated me as she told me how many of my body parts she was going to cut off when she was delivering the babies....Mike

Oh sweetie, hang on. Do you remember what Kali did when she had her last litter? By the way, has Kali seen the vet at all?

Mike...I'm assuming both of these cats were part of a registered breeding program which is why the dad watched over them.

Although not all cats show nesting behaviors before giving birth, we do advocate setting up a secure room (with at least 2 doors between the cat and the outdoors) for the cat where she can give birth so that she does not choose an unsafe location. Within the room should be the nesting/birthing box, litter and her food/water. We also do not advocate allowing the father (if owned) to have access to the mother cat, unless both cats are part of a registered breeding program.

Katie
