Most of the time Delilah
is quite the stereotypical aloof, snotty, demanding kitty (unless she's in the mood for a cuddle) and isn't very receptive to my overtures for playtime. When she was younger she never seemed to respond to catnip, so I haven't had any around for a long time. I bought a bunch of catnip toys today, though, to try with the kittens. Well, Delilah went NUTS!!! I haven't seen her so playful in ages! One of the catnip pillows slid under a living room chair, and she was laying on her back with just her head and front paws under there playing with it, while I watched her belly and rear end wiggle around. Then my son tossed one up the cat tree and she tried to scramble up there so fast she actually FELL OFF halfway up!
This from a cat who's every move usually seems calculated and dignified.

I've noticed other changes in her personality lately too as she gets more used to having the kittens here. I think having them around is good for her.

Sounds like your cat is having some fun.
Catnip isn't effective with kittens until they reach around 6-8 months of age and begin to mature. It's a bit of a sexual stimulant for them.

Radar started reacting to it at about 7 months - and he loves it! I got some dried catnip and sprinkle a pinch of it on the floor - he sniffs at it, eats it, and rolls and squirms all over the floor, it's hilarious

I see you live in Minnesota and this is January but you can grow catnip indoors. It is very easy to grow and this will add to your overall fun of the whole experience. I used to grow it out in my regular herb garden outside and it never did attract any cats that I know of. Anyway, you can get the seeds and planting soil at any of the leading pet stores and this might add to your new found fun!
