I have read on this forum that onions are toxic to cats. I just caught my 20 week old kitten licking a bowl of some stew with onions in it. I don't think he ate actual pieces of onion but I'm really worried. Since it is a holiday, I can't call the vet and I would like to know if this is really serious. Are onions like a poison or is it just toxic in large amounts? What should I do?

I doubt it will cause a problem right away. From what I've read, it's something that develop over time, if the cat keeps eating food containing onions.

Your kitty will be fine, don't worry.
Just a little bit of onion won't hurt him.

Thanks for the reassurance. Ever since I started visiting this forum, I have been paranoid about everything!

Please try not to worry. I had a cat (Troika) who HAD to have some spaghetti with meat sauce and onions whenever the family had spaghetti.

If you didn't give it her, she would hop up on your lap and TAKE if off your dish. She was fine.
