My Niece's new dog...

My niece received a 3 yr old small terrier type (sorry, don't know the exact breed) for Christmas. As she called Rosie, "A Christmas Miracle" my niece has always wanted a dog. So her horse trainer gave her Rosie, who she always played with when she had her lessons. But anyway, the dog doesn't like men. She only lets my niece take care of her. The dog is good with the children, just not adults. This is what I'm told by my other family members, I've not seen the dog.

Any suggestions on getting Rosie over her fear of men (the trainer thinks she was abused before she rescued Rosie)? All I can think of is a dog trainer or dog whisperer type of person.

Have the men of the house feed her and offer her treats. Basically provide the dogs basic needs for her so she sees not all men are bad. Also no raising voices or quick movements around her that might be interpreted as hostile. With a little time and tlc she'll learn to love men again.
