I do this all the time for rabbits. These two are my current favs.

Other than this boy of course, who I am actually fostering right now in the hopes I can bond him with Fey and Sprite and keep him.

Hi guys.

This thread made me think of the place one of my cats was adopted from:

http://www.orphansofthestorm.com/

My cat Gunner was adopted by my uncle's new wife at this place. Her job required her to travel so she thought it was unfair on the cat. She asked me to watch him one time while she was out of the country for 5 weeks and told me she was going to return him to the shelter if I didn't take him. The rest is history. I've had Gunner for 3+ years now.

I would visit Orphans of the Storm on occasion to give the cats some attention and get my cat fix.

Here's the boy I'd take! Roo - a 12 month old Bengal

Roo is a 10-12 month old neutered boy. He is a very affectionate, sweet and loving cat. Considering the awful situation he came from it's surprising that he is as trusting of people as he is. As you can see in one of the pictures, Roo is a lap cat. Roo also is extremely active, and quite the acrobat, being able to easily jump 5 feet up to a ledge at the foster mom's house. Roo has been fully vetted and is up to date on his vaccinations. Roo came to us directly from Animal Control. They went out on a call about a cat that was being abused. When they arrived at the house AC saw Roo being chased and mauled by young children. He had no place to hide or climb. AC turned Roo over to us right after they pulled him. He was dehydrated, sick, afraid and he was missing some of his back claws due to a bacterial infection. He was suffering from neglect and abuse. Roo has blossomed at the foster mom's house, has been vetted and has a clean bill of health. Thanks to medication and the doting care of his foster mom, the bacterial infection has cleared up, his claws are growing back and he's become a little love bug. Roo needs to find a home where there are no young children. We do not know how he would do with other cats, but my guess is that if the introduction is done right and the other cat is cat-social, he'll probably do fine. Roo is really special and needs a great home, a home with people who will adore him and give him the love that he deserves. This is his second chance for a loving, safe life. Because of the medical expenses we are asking for a $175 adoption fee for Roo. If you are interested in Roo, please contact Marilyn by e-mail: [email protected]

Poor Roo!!!! Who would get such a gorgeous cat then treat it so horribly??!!

There was a FeLV+ boy with no back legs that I would go adopt in a heartbeat if I could!

I always search for white(DSH, DMH, & DLH), special needs cats...preferably seniors.
I tend to look at the ones who need homes without kids as I won't ever have any.
A senior pair...

So...yea...they're not kitties...they're greyhounds...but I would LOVE to bring these little girls home! They are kitty friendly and i've already visited them several times!
Colin and I are thinking about adopting a white german shepherd mix named Digger from one of his friends- but if we don't, i would love to get these girls and give them a wonderful forever home away from the race track.

I would love to adopt Flower (page one) and Whitney (page 2)

/ The kitty that I was wanting to adopt from the shelter I volunteer at- Nile, he was an adult chocolate seal point siamese who was dumped off by his irresponsible owners- well- great news- he found a home!!!!!

I love greyhounds but they wouldn't be a breed right for our home since they need space to run. However if were going to talk dogs, here's some I'd love to have.

I love this mix. But she wouldn't fit my home either. She would not be animal friendly unfortunately.

Ironically this is the same rescue organization that bred Kota. Yes I did say bred. She started out as a breeder and worked her way into rescue. Which is how I first met her. She doesn't breed as often now.

Aww! Those dogs are gorgeous!!! I love collies and collie mixes! That's what Fosters is
He's an Aussie/Collie mix!
He really love being around other dogsand enjoys the company...which is why Colin and I are considering adopting another dog
I really hope we are able to soon! It has to be cat/dog/kid/ and rabbit friendly though
That's the only catch!

That's the catch I ran into when I contacted Debbie (Kota's Breeder). We originally chose a 3yr old Lassie type collie named Tanner. He was perfect with Sierra. He was perfect in the house. He was really bad with my cats. The first night I brought him into the house but kept the cats in the back of the room so he would have a chance to sniff around. He did that for an hour and then seemed to settle down. Then I brought the cats out in my arms and he seemed to not be interested which is what behavior I was looking for.

So when I let the cats down my one cat who had been chased before got scared and ran. Well that set it off. He tried to catch my cat and then that alerted my other cat and it was all over. I tried for two weeks to get him to settle down and ignore them. But after that time I had to take him back. It was either that or get rid of my cats which I would not do. They were there first. He eventually did find a home w/ cats and he was fine. I just believe because my cat had a traumatic experience before and ran it set off a prey instinct I couldn't control. I felt really bad for returning him. I tried her suggestions to a T and it still didn't work. In the end I brought home one of her puppies. (Kota). And she's been raised with cats so she doesn't try to hurt them and is perfect with my daughter.

If we ever go for another dog I'll try rescue again. One bad experience isn't going to put me off.

Awww...i'm sorry it didn't work out with the other dog. I've had experiences like that before as well. But look at the bright side- you have your gorgeous little Koda though!
That is something to celebrate
/ Both of my dogs are rescues
Ginger- my 11yr old is a wolf/germanshepherd / elkhound mix. (her mom was full blooded wolf- and her dad was the germanshepherd/elkhound mix.) They were about to euthanize her and her siblings as pups because they were 1/2 wolf....when we just happened to be in the shelter that day- it was a match made in heaven and we got to give our little girl a forever home!
I couldn't love her more!!! / Fosters- he's an aussie/collie mix...colin and i adopted him back at the very end of April from the shelter that I volunteer/foster at. I had seen him several times and had fallen in love with him! I wanted and adult dog -as many times they're the ones who are overlooked. We couldn't have asked for a better fella!! He a sweetheart!! He also LOVES my foster kittens and grooms them like they're his babies
/ We are currently thinking about adopting another adult rescued dog at the moment...so i'm keeping my fingers crossed!!

Good luck with your search. My problem is I want to take them all home! I love wolf mixes but I'm afraid to have them with a child. I know you have to maintain a certain status in the pack that I just don't think I could do. I also volunteer sometimes. Since I work for a pet products company I drop off shampoo and I offer to groom dogs that come in and are exceptionally dirty or matted. I haven't had to go often though.
